NYC: ERIC COMSTOCK - TUESDAYS AT CAFE NOCTAMBULO AT PANGEA

Eric Comstock returns to his residency at New York's newest music venue, CAFE NOCTAMBULO AT PANGEA (178 Second Avenue, NYC - 212-995-0900) from 8:00 pm to midnight every Tuesday night through May 24th. An acknowledged master of the American Songbook, Comstock has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and virtually every important nightclub in New York and across the country. He is one of only a handful of singer/pianists who can command a room merely by sitting at the piano, singing and telling stories. In addition to his extensive knowledge of repertoire, Comstock has a seemingly unending supply of anecdotes about the songs, the writers, and the stars who sang them. His unique combination of musicianship, history and charisma creates an experience that is as entertaining as it is musically savvy, and his audiences feel they've been to a terrific party where the music and the stories have been equally great. There is a $20 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.

NYC: GAY MARRIAGE MUSICAL "THE ENGAYGEMENT" RETURNS MAY 24th

"The Engaygement," a new chamber musical by David Auxier-Loyola, returns to THE METRO-POLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) monthly with remaining performances set for Tuesday, May 24th; and Wednesday, June 22nd - both shows at 7:00 pm. The witty and romantic gay-marriage cabaret show has been testing the waters at the Metropolitan Room since last year in a series of sold-out previews. With music, lyrics and book by Auxier-Loyola, "The Engaygement" is directed by Duncan Pflaster, with arrangements by music director Mark York on piano. The show is a penetrating exploration of a relationship melding two busy New Yorkers into a partnership, works on many levels - social, personal, sexual, not to mention wedding planning. Though it purports to NOT be a story about the battle for marriage equality (which Pflaster slyly points out would make it "a period piece") the socially aware story does glory in the novelty of gay marriage as a new strand in the social fabric. Joining the Bistro Award-winning Auxier in the cast of six are Seph Stanek, Chris-Ian Sanchez, Elliott Mattox, Jason Whitfield and Colleen Harris. The show's creators hope for transition to an Off-Broadway stage and an Off-Broadway premiere. A principal performer, choreographer and co-director of the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, Auxier-Loyola is the creator of the 2009 Bistro Award-winning Gilbert & Sullivan revue "I've Got a Little Twist," which continues to tour the country. He also received a 2007 MAC Award nomination for special musical material. York is the executive producer of The Ziegfeld Society and music coordinator for Jerry Herman. Pflaster is a playwright, director, composer and actor. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

LOS ANGELES, CAL: OPEN MIC AND MORE WITH KERI KELSEY

Keri Kelsey hosts this long-running open mic event Tuesday nights at 9:00 pm (dinner served at 8:00 pm) at THE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444). Keri Kelsey is a woman with, to put it mildly, an eclectic background. Her life experiences are as diverse as traveling with the circus, riding a tiger bareback, assisting a juggler, working as an on-the-spot radio news reporter and a literary agent, signing for the deaf, and swinging 35 feet in the air from a float in the Rose Bowl Parade! (not easy for someone afraid of heights... she found, however, that fear is calmed somewhat when a paycheck is involved ... ) Keri draws inspiration from all these experiences for her personal and compelling performances. She counts among her musical inspirations Julie Wilson, Ann Hampton Callaway and Nancy Wilson. There is a $5 cover plus a 2-drink minimum or dinner.
