NYC: DEBRA VOGEL RETURNS WITH LIFE, LOVE & ALL THAT JAZZ FOR TWO DATES IN DECEMBER

After two sold-out shows in September, Debra Vogel returns to DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Thursday, December 3rd at 7:00 pm and Saturday, December 5th at 4:00 pm. Charming and effervescent, Debra brings her unique warmth and humor back to the stage, taking us on a roller coaster ride of life and relationships. Singing songs by such diverse composers/ lyricists as Stephen Sondheim, Tom Waits, and John Pizzarelli & Jessica Molaskey, Ms. Vogel wraps her versatile voice around both comic and heartfelt lyrics, exploring the risks and rewards of living and loving to the hilt. A seasoned performer throughout the New York region, Ms. Vogel was half of the popular musical duo, O'Connor & Vogel (with Brian Tom O'Connor). Hailed as one of the "masters at her craft", whose shows regularly sell out, she offers a tonic to heartbreak while rejoicing in the unpredictability of love and life. A talented character actress, she engages audiences with her honesty, wit, and spark. Joining Ms. Vogel on her vocal romp is musical director Darryl Curry, providing sterling accompaniment and arrangements. Theater director Elfin Vogel, (co-founder of Block & Tackle Productions), endows the production with a clear eye to the emotional core of each song. And choreographer Nora Brown•s musical staging keeps the show spirited and tight. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: RICHARD MALAVET: VERY GOOD YEARS: THE INTIMATE SINATRA

Returning to Manhattan cabaret, Richard Malavet brings his brand new show, Very Good Years: The Intimate Sinatra to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Thursday, December 3rd at 7:00 pm. Multi-Grammy nominee John di Martino will be musical director/arranger and pianist leading the band. This is the year of Frank Sinatra's centennial. He remains the iconic pop singer whom musical historians and critics' consider the definitive pop vocalist of the last 100 years. In a crowded field, he stands alone as the male singer by whom singers of the Great American Songbook are compared. Throughout his career, Sinatra considered himself a saloon singer. This special retrospective is a chronology of select recorded songs including "This Love Of Mine," and "I'm A Fool To Want You," (two songs he co-wrote), also "Night And Day" and his personal favorite, "Put Your Dreams Away." It also includes the many songs he recorded with his favorite arranger Nelson Riddle. The set will focus on the years 1939 through 1968. It will also feature lesser known gems such as "Once I Loved," "Say It (Over And Over Again") and "The Same Hello, The Same Goodbye," (written for him by Alan & Marilyn Bergman, but never recorded.) There will also be respectful nods to Antonio Carlos Jobim and Duke Ellington both of whom Sinatra collaborated with in the 1960s. Several arrangements are given a decided Latin twist. Richard Malavet has been acclaimed for his work as a singer of the classic American and Spanish songbooks. He has performed with his band in many Manhattan clubs. A native New Yorker, Mr. Malavet has brought his highly acclaimed Billy Eckstine tribute, "The Billy Eckstine Project: Songs in the Key of 'B," to venues across the country. There is a $22.50 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
