NYC: GONE TOO SOON: THE MUSIC OF LAURIE BEECHMAN
FEATURED CABARET BENEFIT EVENT

Joseph Macchia brings you the next installment of the hit series Gone Too Soon, an evening of the music of Laurie Beechman at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM(34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, November 29th at 4:00 pm. Laurie Hope Beechman (April 4, 1953 • March 8, 1998) was an American actor and singer, known for her work in Broadway musicals. After her death, the West Bank Cafe Downstairs Theater Bar in New York, was renamed the Laurie Beechman Theatre. Beechman made her Broadway debut in the 1977 original production of Annie. For her role as the narrator in the 1982 original Broadway production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, she was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. She then went on to be the first actress to play the role of Grizabella in the US national touring production of Cats in 1983, before replacing Betty Buckley in the Broadway production in 1984. She would play the role on Broadway for over four years. She also starred in the Broadway productions of The Pirates of Penzance (1981) and Les Miserables (1990) and returned to the role of Grizabella for four months in 1997, when Cats became the longest running musical in Broadway history. In addition to her Broadway work, she had a career as a cabaret performer and a recording artist. Produced by Joseph Macchia and directed by Peter Napolitano. There is a $10 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: CRAIG POMRANZ WITH AN ENCORE PERFORMANCE OF HIS SOLD-OUT SHOW "DON'T TALK JUST SING!"

Craig Pomranz will present an encore performance of his sold-out show "Don't Talk Just Sing!" at  CAFE NOCTAMBULO AT PANGEA (178 Second Avenue, NYC - 212-995-0900) on Sunday, November 29th at 3:00 pm. Craig Pomranz arrived in New York like a wunderkind. The city threw open its arms to the fresh-faced triple threat, and it wasn't long before he was playing to sold-out crowds at three clubs at once: Freddy's, East Five Three and Mickey's. He performed at Ted Hook's Onstage, The Duplex, The Ballroom, The Horn Of Plenty, and (pre-comedy) Caroline's. The public and other entertainers (like Peter Allen) were drawn to Craig's individualistic performances, marked by a sense of immediacy and risk, modeled after the classic nightclub acts of idols like Nancy Wilson, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Mel Torme. He was so successful at packing venues, nightclub impresario R•gine engaged him to create and debut the music room Cafe Reginette next to her famous Park Avenue nightclub, Regine's. Craig's passion, his connection to the crowd, the mellifluous tenor, his understanding of the content and how to communicate it, and his accessible and varied repertoire, always fresh. During Craig's early years in New York City, one of his fiercest champions in the press was the late Curt Davis, writer/critic for The New York Post and a founder of the Manhattan Association of Cabarets. Davis became a friend and a mentor to Craig, and his passing was a great loss to New York nightlife, and a tremendous personal loss to Craig. It was around the time of Davis's death that Craig turned his focus to other avenues of expression and personal growth. His admiration for singers like Day and Frank Sinatra is rooted in their willingness to take chances, their intelligence and their superb musicianship. Craig studies the singers he loves, and searches for unique material among the thousands of songs in the American Songbook, and elsewhere, which are not 'over-exposed.' Call for cover/minimum information.
