NYC: SALON RETURNS - THEME FOR THE EVENING: "THE MANY SIDES OF LENNIE (MEANING BERNSTEIN, BUT ANY LENNIE WILL DO)"
SALON - that unique, multiple award winning, Weekly Open Mic Event, created and hosted by Mark Janas will return to ETCETERA ETCETERA (352 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-399-4141) on Sunday, August 30th from 7:00-10:30 pm. (Sign-Up Begins at 6:15.) The optional theme for the evening is "The Many Sides Of Lennie (meaning Bernstein, but any Lennie will do)". Remember, any material, on or off theme, is always welcome at Salon. Co-Host will be Multiple Bistro, MAC, Nightlife & Julie Wilson Award Winner Julie Reyburn! The Salon events are produced by Tanya Moberly. Salon is an ongoing open entertainment event in which singers, writers and musicians share their talent with each other and audience members. There are no reservations; seating is on a first come/ first served basis. All types of material, on or off theme are always welcome at Salon. They enthusiastically welcome instrumentalists, poets, playwrights, essayists, comics, illusionists and performance artists. Please limit your selections to three or four minutes in length (including introductions). Please also bring clear, complete charts for the accompanist to read. There is a $10 cash cover collected at the door and a $15 food/drink minimum (cash or credit) per person. Salon continues every Sunday (except September 6th & September 13th).

NYC: SPRING & SUMMER: THE SPRING AWAKENING CAST REUNION
After three sold-out shows in June, cast members from the original Broadway and touring companies of Spring Awakening are once again reuniting on the stage of 54 BELOW(254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Sunday, August 30th with performances at 7:00 & 9:30 pm. Come see them perform a variety of different musical styles and share some behind-the-scenes anecdotes from their time with the show. Audience members can expect to see a different show than was presented in June with all new song choices. A pair of tickets to the new Broadway revival of Spring Awakening will be given away at each performance! Starring: Krystina Alabado (American Idiot), Christy Altomare (Mamma Mia!), Julie Benko (Les Miserables), Justin Scott Brown (ACT's A Little Night Music), Amanda Castanos, Anthony Lee Medina (STARZ's Flesh and Bone), Ben Moss (Brooklynite), Eryn Murman (5j Barrow), Claire Sparks, Taylor Trensch (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time), Gabe Violett, Remy Zaken (Brooklynite), Zach Reiner-Harris and more. Music directed by Charity Wicks and Produced by Shoshana Feinstein. There is a $35-$75 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
NYC: MEKAAL HASAN BAND AT JOE'S PUB
The Mekaal Hasan Band will perform at JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Sunday, August 30th at 7:00 pm. Mekaal Hasan founded Mekaal Hasan Band in 2000, with the intent of featuring traditional music from the subcontinent in a progressive rock-jazz based musical style. The band achieved mainstream success in the sub-continent and across the fusion world from 2004 onwards with it's recordings and live performances, leading the band to win numerous awards for their intense live performances and also establishing them as representative of a modern yet traditional style of South Asian music with roots in folk, classical and jazz and literary roots in poetry and writings of Sufi sages and modern Punjabi poets like Amrita Pritam. There is a $20 cover.
NYC: JOE'S PUB PRESENTS SINGER/ SONGWRITER Jay Brannan
A Texas native turned New Yorker, Jay Brannan, who has been writing and performing his own sweet & sad folk songs, tempered with a healthy dose of humor, around the globe since 2006, performs at JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Sunday, August 30th at 9:30 pm. Jay also appeared as an actor in John Cameron Mitchell's indie film sensation Shortbus, in which his song "Soda Shop" was the highest selling song on the film's soundtrack album (released by Bright Eyes' Team Love Records). From there, Brannan released a string of albums, all of which topped the iTunes Singer/ Songwriter & Billboard Heatseekers charts: goddamned, produced by Will Golden (Meiko, Michelle Branch); In Living Cover, a collection of 2 originals & 7 covers, recorded from a bedroom in his friend Drew Brody's Brooklyn apartment; and Rob Me Blind, produced by the legendary David Kahne (Regina Spektor, The Bangles, Paul McCartney, Kelly Clarkson, Lana Del Rey, etc.). Brannan's touring has taken him multiple times around the world, through the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, Greece, Brazil, South Africa, Israel, and Australia. This international touring is what inspired his 2013 EP release Around the World in 80 Jays, a collection of 9 international cover songs spanning 6 different languages. Brannan returned to the road (and sky) in 2014 to promote his new album of acoustic originals, entitled Always, Then, & Now (available now). Going on 12 years in NYC, Jay continues to write, sing, and live the good life surrounded by ramen & ice cream. He dreams of one day adopting a baby fox & moving to a faraway land to live inside a castle. There is a $20 cover.
NYC: BIRDLAND JAZZ PARTY HOSTED BY CAROLE BUFFORD
Birdland's very own jazz quartet hits the stage every Sunday to wrap up the weekend with jazz classics featuring jazz vocalist Carole J. Bufford at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Sundays, August 9th, 23rd & 30th at 6:00 pm. Carole J. Bufford has become a sought after young performer in the New York cabaret & jazz scene. Her recent shows, "speak easy." (featuring the Grammy Award-winning Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks) and "Body & Soul" earned her rave reviews across the board She is the recipient several awards for Outstanding Vocalist. She has traveled all over the US (The Colony's Royal Room - Palm Beach; Venetian Room - Dallas; Cabaret 313 - Detroit; Broadway By The Bay - San Mateo; Upright Cabaret - L.A.) and recently made her London Debut to great critical acclaim. Recently, Carole was featured in Michael Feinstein's Great American Songbook series at Jazz at Lincoln Center. She has been spotlighted in numerous "Broadway By The Year" concerts, both at The Town Hall and in California. There is a $30 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
