S.F.AREA: BIRD'S NEST JAZZ PRESENTS THE JULES ROWELL QUINTET
BIRD'S NEST JAZZ at WATERPARK LOFTS (2875 Glascock Street #109, Oakland, CA - 510-534-6163) presents jazz in an intimate setting the last Sunday of the month from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Seating is first come, first served. On Sunday, November 20th, (a week earlt because of the Thanksgiving weekend) the club will present The Jules Rowell Quintet (Jules Rowell, Trombone/Composer; Ian Wilson, Sax; David Udolf, Piano; Mario Surachi, Bass; Rob Gibson, Drums) with "Silver Serenade: songs by/or inspired by Horace Silver". Trombonist and bandleader Jules Rowell is a genuine scholar of contemporary jazz composing and arranging. He has an master's in music from San Francisco State Univeristy where he specialized in the music of Duke Ellington. His playing experience includes the legendary Woody Herman big band, Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, and trumpet great Tom Harrell, as well as many fine Latin/jazz ensembles including Eddie Palmieri, and Pete Escovedo. He has written music for Teo Macero, Mark Little, Mike Vax, Pete Escovedo, Francisco Aguabella and the Kronos String Quartet. His dedication and highly respected position in the Bay Area jazz community has kept this ensemble going for more than ten years against all economic odds. $26 donation includes food & beverage.
