NYC: BRITISH TV STAR MELANIE STACE "STEPPIN OUT"
British TV star Melanie Stace makes her New York concert debut at the THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 )) with final performance on Saturday, July 23rd at 9:30 pm. Acclaimed for her roles on the West End, British television, and, for five seasons in Seattle and San Francisco in "Teatro ZinZanni," Stace premieres a new show "Steppin' Out," backed by a four-piece band led by the pianist and music director Doug Oberhamer. A widely recognized television personality in her native Britain, Stace alternates between concerts and theatre on the West Coast and in London. "Steppin' Out" features a widely eclectic repertoire of songs that swing liberally between contemporary and vintage musical and show business reference points. From James Taylor to Irving Berlin and Doris Fisher, to Billy Joel and Billie Holiday, Harry Connick Jr., Vernon Duke, Leon Russell and, of all things, Odyssey, Stace brings a nightclub/big band sensibility to songs that she says are "musically and emotionally all over the map." Her quartet, led by Doug Oberhamer, includes Greg Chudzik on bass, Tony Romano on guitar, and Eric Halvorson on drums. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
