BOSTON: MANOLO MAIRENA WITH ANGEL SUBERO & FRIENDS

Medici Musica presents Manolo Mairena with Angel Subero & Friends at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel(1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Friday, August 22nd at 7:30 pm. Manolo Mairena is a New England based vocalist and percussionist who originally hails from Costa Rica. Mairena is active on the Boston scene, having played with the best bands in the New England area. He has joined forces with a very talented trombonist and long time friend, Angel Subero. Together they have created a group that will present a performance that will move the audience to dance and will include Latin rhythms from a Son Montuno, Bolero, and Salsa with the influence of contemporary Cuban music which brings to the dance floor all the swing you need. This band features some of the best musicians in Latin music on the East Coast. There is a $16 cover.

TORONTO: YOUNG ARTIST SERIES: PATRICK HEWAN

Jazz pianist Patrick Hewan, a rising star in the Toronto Jazz scene, will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299 ) on Thursday through Saturday, August 21st through 23rd at 6:00 pm as part of the clubs Young Artist Series. Patrick's energetic virtuosic playing captivates and moves his audiences. He draws on the vast vocabulary of the legendary jazz pianists who came before him and adds his own spirit and passion to create a unique sound and style. Drawing heavily on influences such as: Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Hiromi Uehara, Oscar Peterson, and Phineas Newborn while studying under the tutelage of legendary pianists such as Mark Eisenman, Brian Dickesnon, Richard Whiteman, Robi Botos, and Hilario Duran it's no secret where Patrick developed his unique, high-octane style that still clearly adheres to the art forms tradition. Patrick began studying classical piano at the age of four and was later introduced to the saxophone where he developed a great love for jazz music. His education includes York University and Humber College and he is a recipient of the Berklee World Tour Scholarship for both sax and piano. There is no cover.

Hailing down from the NYC area, American jazz trumpeter and composer, Dave Douglas will perform at BIRDLAND(315 West 44th Street d, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Tuesday through Saturday, August 19th through 23rd with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. He is joined by Jon Irabagon (sax), Matt Mitchell (piano), Linda Oh (bass) and Rudy Royston (drums). Douglas' unique repertoire and style speaks for itself. Since 1993, Douglas has recorded more than forty albums as a bandleader. With his own groups, Douglas has pioneered new settings for the trumpet in jazz. He has produced and recorded countless artists and groups, including all albums released by his independent label Greenleaf Music. Douglas has performed and recorded with dozens of musicians in jazz and has been a member of the SFJAZZ Collective and various John Zorn ensembles. In more recent years, he has explored collaborations involving modern dance, spoken word/poetry, and film. Douglas served as the artistic director of the Banff Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music from 2002 - 2012 and is the co-founder of the Festival of New Trumpet Music, a non-profit charity that supports new and pioneering trumpet workshops across genres, genders and communities and is held annually in New York City. NYC: THE LATIN SIDE OF HORACE SILVER: CONRAD HERWIG & THE LATIN SIDE ALL-STARS

THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) welcomes back trombonist Conrad Herwig with 'The Latin Side Of Horace Silver' on Tuesday through Sunday, August 19th through 24th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. His special guest is Michel Camilo. The program - the seventh iteration of his "Latin Side" franchise, spotlights the music of jazz legend Horace Silver (who recently passed away in June 2014). The project will be recorded live each night and later released on Half Note Records in 2015. Since 1998, Herwig's "Latin Side" franchise has been focused on reimagining seminal jazz musicians' compositions by showcasing those compositions within the framework of Afro-Cuban and Afro-Caribbean rhythms. Past projects include the GRAMMY nominated The Latin Side of John Coltrane, Another Kind of Blue - The Latin Side of Miles Davis, and The Latin Side of Wayne Shorter, as well as Sketches of Spain y Mas and The Latin Side of Herbie Hancock. Many of these albums have featured various special guests, ranging from Eddie Palmieri and Randy Brecker to Paquito D'Rivera and Dave Valentin. All of the albums have been released on Half Note Records. Herwig's latest "Latin Side" release, The Latin Side of Joe Henderson featuring Joe Lovano, is scheduled for September 16th release on Half Note. One of the most in-demand jazz educators, Conrad Herwig is a Conn-Selmer clinician and performs exclusively on Bach Stradivarius trombones. A pianist with a brilliant technique and a composer that flavors his tunes with Afro-Caribbean rhythms, Michel Camilo's musical language is an expressive combination of his Dominican Republic musical heritage and a rich, intelligent use of jazz harmonies and textures. WASHINGTON, DC: RAMSEY LEWIS & HIS ELECTRIC BAND AT BLUES ALLEY

Ramsey Lewis & His Electric Band take the stage atBLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141 ) on Thursday through Sunday, August 21st through 24th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Ramsey recently released his 80th collection of songs entitled "Ramsey, Taking Another Look". Ramsey has been an iconic leader in the contemporary jazz movement for over 50 years, with an unforgettable sound and outgoing personality that has allowed him to cross over to the pop and R&B charts. The Ramsey Lewis Trio, with bassist Eldee Young and percussionist Redd Holt, became a fixture on the Chicago jazz scene, releasing their debut album, Ramsey Lewis & His Gentlemen of Jazz, back in 1956. Lewis earned his first gold record, as well as a Grammy award for Best Jazz Performance, for their swinging version of Dobie Gray's hit "The In Crowd." Throughout the years, Lewis' trio has undergone membership changes, all the while staying true to Lewis' high musical standards. Call for cover/minimum information.

The Virginia Belles, the oldest and most established all-female a cappella group at the University of Virginia, will perform at BETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500 ) on Thursday, August 21st at 7:30 pm. Simply put, they are a group of young ladies who love to sing without instruments, and the group, though changing members through the years, has been making beautiful music since its founding 35 years ago. Completely student-run, the Belles perform an eclectic range of vocal music from oldies and classic rock to indie and R&B. The Belles share their music at a variety of venues at the University, in Charlottesville, and along the east coast. They were recognized by the Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards, opened for Ingrid Michaelson at the Music Inspires Health concert in Washington D.C., and have even been covered by Fox news. Jazz pianist Patrick Hewan, a rising star in the Toronto Jazz scene, will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299 ) on Thursday through Saturday, August 21st through 23rd at 6:00 pm as part of the clubs Young Artist Series. Patrick's energetic virtuosic playing captivates and moves his audiences. He draws on the vast vocabulary of the legendary jazz pianists who came before him and adds his own spirit and passion to create a unique sound and style. Drawing heavily on influences such as: Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Hiromi Uehara, Oscar Peterson, and Phineas Newborn while studying under the tutelage of legendary pianists such as Mark Eisenman, Brian Dickesnon, Richard Whiteman, Robi Botos, and Hilario Duran it's no secret where Patrick developed his unique, high-octane style that still clearly adheres to the art forms tradition. Patrick began studying classical piano at the age of four and was later introduced to the saxophone where he developed a great love for jazz music. His education includes York University and Humber College and he is a recipient of the Berklee World Tour Scholarship for both sax and piano. There is no cover.

TORONTO: THE AULT SISTERS AT THE JAZZ BISTRO

The Ault Sisters will perform atTHE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299 ) on Thursday, August 21st at 8:00 pm. It may seem strange to call The Ault Sisters veterans, given that Amanda, Alicia and Alanna Ault are, respectively, just 22, 20 and 18. They have left novice status long behind, though, given that they released an acclaimed debut album, Christmas Feelings, back in 2006. They have studied music and performed extensively since then, diligently honing their craft and employing their prodigious vocal skills in a wide range of musical styles, with great distinction. The Ault Sisters have now turned to jazz, a genre in which their signature and sublimely seamless vocal harmonies really shine. The Toronto-based trio got back in the studio with their longtime producer, Greg Kavanagh (BKS, Wendy Lands), and an A-list of local players, to record a keenly-anticipated jazz album: Timeless. Musicians featured on the record include Canadian jazz greats Robi Botos (piano), Ted Quinlan (guitar) John Johnson (saxophone) and William Sperandei (trumpet), alongside the ace rhythm section of bassist George Koller and drummer Ben Riley. Whether used on classical, pop or jazz material, it is the vocal harmonies of The Ault Sisters that are their signature. There is a $15 cover.

NYC: ROTEM SIVAN TRIO AT BIRDLAND

The Rotem Sivan Trio (Rotem Sivan - Guitar, Haggai Cohen Milo - Bass and Mark McLean - Drums) will perform at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080 ) on Thursday, August 21st at 6:00 pm. Rotem Sivan is a fascinating new voice in the New York jazz scene. A native of Haifa, Israel, his musical palette draws from classical and jazz influences combined with ethnic elements. Hailing down from the NYC area, American jazz trumpeter and composer, Dave Douglas will perform at BIRDLAND(315 West 44th Street d, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Tuesday through Saturday, August 19th through 23rd with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. He is joined by Jon Irabagon (sax), Matt Mitchell (piano), Linda Oh (bass) and Rudy Royston (drums). Douglas' unique repertoire and style speaks for itself. Since 1993, Douglas has recorded more than forty albums as a bandleader. With his own groups, Douglas has pioneered new settings for the trumpet in jazz. He has produced and recorded countless artists and groups, including all albums released by his independent label Greenleaf Music. Douglas has performed and recorded with dozens of musicians in jazz and has been a member of the SFJAZZ Collective and various John Zorn ensembles. In more recent years, he has explored collaborations involving modern dance, spoken word/poetry, and film. Douglas served as the artistic director of the Banff Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music from 2002 - 2012 and is the co-founder of the Festival of New Trumpet Music, a non-profit charity that supports new and pioneering trumpet workshops across genres, genders and communities and is held annually in New York City. NYC: THE LATIN SIDE OF HORACE SILVER: CONRAD HERWIG & THE LATIN SIDE ALL-STARS

THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) welcomes back trombonist Conrad Herwig with 'The Latin Side Of Horace Silver' on Tuesday through Sunday, August 19th through 24th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. His special guest is Michel Camilo. The program - the seventh iteration of his "Latin Side" franchise, spotlights the music of jazz legend Horace Silver (who recently passed away in June 2014). The project will be recorded live each night and later released on Half Note Records in 2015. Since 1998, Herwig's "Latin Side" franchise has been focused on reimagining seminal jazz musicians' compositions by showcasing those compositions within the framework of Afro-Cuban and Afro-Caribbean rhythms. Past projects include the GRAMMY nominated The Latin Side of John Coltrane, Another Kind of Blue - The Latin Side of Miles Davis, and The Latin Side of Wayne Shorter, as well as Sketches of Spain y Mas and The Latin Side of Herbie Hancock. Many of these albums have featured various special guests, ranging from Eddie Palmieri and Randy Brecker to Paquito D'Rivera and Dave Valentin. All of the albums have been released on Half Note Records. Herwig's latest "Latin Side" release, The Latin Side of Joe Henderson featuring Joe Lovano, is scheduled for September 16th release on Half Note. One of the most in-demand jazz educators, Conrad Herwig is a Conn-Selmer clinician and performs exclusively on Bach Stradivarius trombones. A pianist with a brilliant technique and a composer that flavors his tunes with Afro-Caribbean rhythms, Michel Camilo's musical language is an expressive combination of his Dominican Republic musical heritage and a rich, intelligent use of jazz harmonies and textures.
