The May 19th Gala will include a cocktail hour at 5:00 pm, with unlimited wine, beer, soda and special Gala cocktails, followed by a buffet dinner and dessert at 6:00 pm, a live auction with glamorous fashion, entertainment and travel items, and a show featuring Eric Michael Gillett, Stacy Sullivan, Gretchen Reinhagen, Alison Nusbaum, Hedda Lettuce and more performers to be announced. Artists in Partnership Presents 11th Annual Cabaret Festival honoring the Great American Songbook in Long Island, NY Friday through Sunday, May 17th through May 19th at THE LONG BEACH PUBLIC LIBRARY (111 West Park Avenue, Long Beach, NY - 516-432-6342 - http://www.aip-arts.org/ ). All performances are FREE to the public. The festival will feature performances by renowned local and New York City-based artists.

SATURDAY, MAY 18th
2:00 pm - "CABARET CONVERSATIONS" - Established artists along with musical director and pianist Tedd Firth demonstrate and comment on the cabaret genre as they honor the famous and infamous vocalists - the "divas" of the Cabaret World. Susan James will facilitate the discussion while artists Michael Hughes, Stacy Sullivan, Colleen McHugh and Tedd Firth perform in various song styles along with commentary by critic Rob Lester.

This event is made possible with public funds from the Long Beach Public Library and a special Burst Grant from NY State Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg. The library is handicapped accessible, located two blocks from the LIRR station in Long Beach, a 50-minute train ride from New York City's Penn Station.

Artists in Partnership, Inc. is a 501c3 cultural arts organization located in Long Beach, NY. Latin Jazz Legend Arturo Sandoval will perform at BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) Thursday through Sunday, May 16th through 19th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Granted political asylum in July 1990 and US citizenship in 1999, Sandoval and his family now call Miami, Florida home. A protege of the legendary jazz master Dizzy Gillespie, Sandoval was born in Artemisa, a small town in the outskirts of Havana, Cuba, on November 6, 1949, just two years after Gillespie became the first musician to bring Latin influences into American Jazz. Sandoval began studying classical trumpet at the age of twelve, but it didn't take him long to catch the excitement of the jazz world. He has since evolved into one of the World's most acknowledged guardians of jazz trumpet and flugel horn, as well as a renowned classical artist, pianist and composer. Ms. Avis is making her Cafe Carlyle debut with her new program, In Love With Love, which will feature her unique brand of sophisticated European cabaret and will be multi-lingual from a variety of influences: Cole Porter, Kurt Weill, Friedrich Hollander and other sophisticates and heartbreakers. Ms. Avis will be joined on stage by musical director David Shenton at the piano, Tony Macelli on bass, Rich Mercurio on drums, and Will Holshouser on accordion. Over the course of a stellar career that has spanned more than 30 years, saxophonist Kenny Garrett has become the preeminent alto saxophonist of his generation. From his first gig with the Duke Ellington Orchestra (led by Mercer Ellington) through his time spent with musicians such as Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers and Miles Davis, Garrett has always brought a vigorous yet melodic, and truly distinctive, alto saxophone sound to each musical situation. As a bandleader for the last two decades, he has also continually grown as a composer. With his latest recording (and second for Mack Avenue Records), Seeds From The Underground, Garrett has given notice that these qualities have not only become more impressive, but have provided him with the platform to expand his horizons and communicate his musical vision clearly. Conductor and arranger for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra from its inception in 1988 through 1994, Berger has transcribed more than 750 full scores of classic recordings including over 500 works by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. Dori's special guest and frequent collaborator Joyce became an instant sensation for her sultry, subtle 1980 album "Feminina" which established her as one of the few Brazilian women recognized for composing as well as vocals and guitar.
