MEMBERSHIPS NOW INCLUDE NEW BENEFITS!

2009-2010 CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE MEMBERSHIPS are now on sale - all current memberships expire on the 5th of July each year, so new members can get an extra month of benefits by joining now. And current members can avoid a lot of pesky e-mails from me begging them to rejoin by signing up today and getting it all out of the way now. You can join today - just click on the button marked JOIN HERE at the top of every page on the website. ($250 Crystal members and above get 2 free tickets to the birthday show - subject to availability.)

By the way, some new benefits for members start up in July - especially for those running banner ads! For one, if you don't have a website, I will build you a temporary one-page "website" to link your banner to - a full copy of your flier, front & back if applicable - no extra charge. And that page can link to the club where your show is taking place (or the CDBaby or LML page where your CD is for sale). With many clubs now accepting reservations online, this could be important.

Next, if you have a sample of the show you are advertising on YouTube, we will add an extra "promo" banner under your banner or side-bar ad linked to the YouTube video. (All members are entitled to a YouTube link year round, listed a special page, but this link will appear right with your ad!) Again, this is a MEMBERS' ONLY offer, but memberships (SILVER) are as low as $20 per year.

And, again starting in July, I will be adding TWITTER links to the membership listings - we already link our members names to their websites and MySpace pages. More details on this in the special MEMBERS' ONLY newsletter going out tomorrow. These benefits are in addition to the special CD promotion page that every member is entitled to, and of course discounts/rebates on banner advertising, and discounts on select cabaret events all year long. And we're continuing to seek ways to make your membership in CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE more valuable - stay tuned.

Just click on the button marked JOIN HERE at the top of every page on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE for details on all benefits and levels of membership - and you can join instantly using a credit card and PayPal!

Like its predecessor, What's Your Problem?!, this revue was crafted from a slightly gay perspective, but the truths are all universal. WEBSITE RESTRUCTURING

Starting this weekend, we are going to revise the website with four new weekly (more often, when possible) items: Featured Cabaret Show, Featured Cabaret Review, Featured Cabaret CD and Featured Cabaret Benefit. The event items will appear in synopsis on the Home Page (with the synopsis also appearing in the DATEBOOK/DIARY listings by date) and in full on four special pages on the website - one for each title. Of course, this is dependent on receiving enough press releases (and complete press releases - A FLIER IS NOT A PRESS RELEASE), and my getting to enough shows to review. But I have a backlog now of about a dozen reviews to start with. Stay tuned.

MAYBE I AM IMAGINING THIS BUT ....

Is the economy on an uptick? Something very unusual happened this week - or I should say something didn't happen that has been happening a lot lately. I have noted for the past several months that with each mailing of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE newsletter, I got back from 1 to 4 "returns" from corporate websites indicating that the e-mail address was no longer valid - meaning the person was no longer employed at that firm. But the past two issues, no such returns! I note that the stock market also seemed to be making a bit of a recovery for the past two days (let's see if that holds up today). I will keep an eye on this phenomenon for the next to issues and report back.

400 REACHED - AND SURPASSED!

The addition of one new member - and the renewal of one 2007-2008 member, both within a few minutes of each other has allowed us to trumpet that we hit - and surpassed - our goal of 400 CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE members for the 2008-2009 membership year, which ends on July 5th, 2009. We are still down about 20% from our record year of 2007-2008 but about 15% ahead of our previous 2nd place year - 2005-2006. Do we dare dream of 410 or even 425? Well, 17 CHARTER members (those who have been steadfast supporters since 2001 when we started our membership system (with 180 original members) still have time to rejoin - thats nearly 15 percent of last year's charter list, so we do have some hopes.

You can join right on this blog - just scroll down and look on the right column for a large PayPal logo with the words SILVER PAYPAL above it - the cost is just $20. Or you can go to the regular website (http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/ ) and click on the button at the top of every page marked JOIN HERE and see all the levels of membership and benefits.

NOW MORE THAN EVER CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT!

IT'S SAFE TO COME BACK TO THE MESSAGE BOARD

We're trying to revitalize our CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE Message Board. After a massive spam attack that "broke" the board three times last year, we closed the board for a period of 3 or 4 weeks. And a lot of folks never bothered to come back to post their news, views and cabaret ideas. Its FREE, anyone can post a message - with a few important rules: it must be cabaret related, it must be in good taste, and you must use your real name in your posting. Of course I reserve the right to reject any post that I feel is not in the spirit of cabaret. To keep spammers at bay, all postings are moderated, which means your post may take anywhere from 15 minutes to a few hours to appear (I get away from the computer on occasion). Just click on the button marked MESSAGE BOARD at the top of every page on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website.

If you have not sent in your ballot yet, your vote just might tip the balance towards your favorite performers. Both winners in the Debut category will be invited to perform at our MARCH IS CABARET MONTH GALA on March 10th.

REVUE IS WHAT THEY DO - REVIEW IS WHAT I DO

The title of this item is one I say over and over again to myself when editing news items sent in for the newsletter and the website. You would be amazed how often I have had to correct articles - headlines, even - about "revues". So imagine my horror on reading over todays newsletter and discovering that I made the same error myself! And I can't even blame it on my spell checker.

I always find typos, missing words and other stuff (I put DC Anderson in NYC in today's issue, even though I know that THE GARDENIA is not in NYC) after I send out the e-mail, and by the time it gets all coded to be added to the website I catch most of them.

I made another goof - I forgot to add the ''SUPER PICK" tagline to several items. I fixed that, too.

So a corrected (95% anyway) version is now posted on the website - links are on the home page.

CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE APPROACHING THE 400 MEMBER MARK!

Just 16 more to go to make it to 400 CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE members for 2008-2009. And here's a special way you can join for $10 instead of the usual $20 SILVER member cost. Every non-member who purchases a $30 ticket for the March 10th MARCH IS CABARET MONTH event will receive a FREE membership - good through July 5, 2009. You must purchase your tickets online - just click HERE.

And we just added a "new" benefit for members. In the past, any performer who offered a CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE discount would have their event included in the listings in every MIDWEEK (Thursday) issue of the newsletter. To further shorten the size of the issues, this privilege will now be for members only. Non-members will have their show listed in the newsletter just once and will continue to be listed on the website's DISCOUNTS page. Member discount shows will continue to be listed in every Thursday issue.

To find out all the benefits of membership just go to the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website and click on the button marked JOIN HERE at the top of every page.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED TO TEST A NEW CABARET PROMOTION IDEA

I have another new idea (these "brainstorms" come to me when I stay home from cabaret for too many nights because of the frigid weather) and I need your help - if you are interested. I have a SKYPE account - I call it my business phone - which allows me to make phone calls without using my cell phone - and receive phone messages as well. I have no "real" phone. And if you have a SKYPE account (its free to sign up at http://www.skype.com/) you can call my phone at any time from anywhere at a very low - or no cost - and leave a message. OK, I could answer it but I don't - leave a message. My SKYPE account address is stuhamstra if you have a SKYPE account - that's easy to remember. If you don't have a SKYPE ACCOUNT you can call my SKYPE phone number at 646-652-6743. I won't answer, but a lady with a British accent will answer and ask you to leave a message. And for this test I would like you to leave a message about your upcoming cabaret show or cabaret CD release.

Introduce yourself by name an city, and then leave a short 2 minute promo (please remember to give all the details, and give the URL of your website if possible). It would also help to leave your e-mail address so I can contact you. This is just a test, and maybe absolutely nothing will ever come if it and your recording will be lost forever. But it might just end up as part of that long promised but never delivered CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE podcast I have been talking about for about three years. I need your help to test my software and see if any upgrades are needed before we launch it officially - and I might even send your a special URL where you can tune in on the internet to some of our test efforts.

Now comes some legal mumbo-jumbo: If you leave a message promoting your event or CD, you thereby grant to Stuart V. Hamstra dba CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, its subsidiaries, affiliates, agents, successors, and assigns the right and permission to record, use, publish, stream live, offer for sale, or otherwise distribute any audio or video interview. Such right and permission includes, but is not limited to, name, recorded voice or video, photograph or likeness, biographical information, handouts or any material based upon or derived therefrom.

DID YOU MISS YOUR ISSUE OF CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE TODAY?

It seems that over 60 newsletters were returned today because the contents were considered "inappropriate or spam" by various spam filters. Now, I assume that everyone who has subscribed really wants to receive every issue, and they should check their spam filters to make sure that mail from CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE will be let through - you need to add the e-mail address to your filter's "white list". Of course if you are using a computer hooked up to the server of a company you work for, you may not be able to do this.

I would love to resend you today's issue, but I have no idea why this one was rejected. Last time this happened, the name of a long closed club in Manhattan called BOBO'S was miss-corrected by my spell checker to BOOBS - I didn't catch it and over 60 newsletters were rejected. In today's issue the only "offensive" word I could find would be "gay" but that word has so many different uses I kind of doubt it would be rejected unless you are using a computer at a Southern Baptist or possibly Morman church.

So - today's issue has now been posted on the website - http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/ - and there are 2 links right on the home page - one near the top and one in the left column.

And if you can help me find the offending word I would be most appreciative - so I can avoid it in the future.

HUGS
