2010 MAC AWARD NOMINEE Mark Janas' Salon will return on Sunday, April 11th atETCETERA ETCETERA (352 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-399-4141) from 7:00 to 10:30 pm (signup starts at 6:15 pm). The Salon is where singers, writers and musicians share their talent with each other and audience members. Co-host will be VOCE (Keith Harris, Paul Harris, Dave Kindinger & Stephen Wilde). The optional theme will be "It Takes Two (or More) to Tango - Ensemble Songs". Special guest is Marquee 5 (Mick Bleyer, Adam Hemming, Vanessa Parvin, Sierra Rein & Julie Reyburn). As always, the theme is only a suggestion; you may perform anything you like in any musical genre: Broadway, pop, rock, country, jazz, classical, etc. Salon will continue every Sunday through June. There is a $10 cash cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

MARK JANAS' SALON RETURNS - NEW LOCATION

Note from Mark Janas:

I'm happy to announce that Salon will return on Sunday, November 29 (the Sunday at the end of Thanksgiving weekend) at Etcetera Etcetera, 352 West 44th Street (near the corner of 9th Ave. on the South side of the street) 7PM - 10:30PM.  Doors open at 6:15 with sign up beginning at 6:30.

The venue is upstairs in the Restaurant and is lovely. It has a grand piano, lights, a sound system and someone to run them, and has a wonderful Italian menu at reasonable prices.  A $10 cash cover will be be collected by an "Etceterette" at the door, and there will be a $10 minimum on food or drink.  The prices here are more reasonable, so I'm guessing that even with the cover, most of you will be spending the same or less than you did at the Algonquin.

The theme for the evening is "WE GATHER TOGETHER."  Here's a chance to sing of things you are thankful for, and to celebrate the spirit of the Salon, or indeed, any gathering of kindred spirits.  I know I have certainly missed our seeing each other, as so many of you have expressed over the past weeks. As always, the theme only a suggestion, and you may perform anything you would like.

Our wonderful co-hosts for the evening will be the ever-entertaining Jim Brochu and Steve Schalchlin, creators of the hit Off-Broadway musicals "The Last Session" and "The Big Voice: God or Merman."  Jim is in town performing his award-winning original one-man show, Zero Hour, about Zero Mostel, which opens this Sunday, Nov. 22nd, at The Theatre at St. Clements on West 46th St. at 7 PM.  Steve is returning to us after a wild success with his choral/orchestral work "New World Waking" which had it's World Premier at Davies Symphony Hall with the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus featuring Jennifer Holliday as soloist.

ALGONQUIN SALON ON HIATUS

I just received word from the producer that the ALGONQUIN SALON is unfortunately on hiatus as they work to resolve some issues with the hotel, or failing that, find another venue.  Thus, there will be no Salon this Sunday, September 20th. Mark Janas' Algonquin Salon, which has been taking place weekly in the lobby of the ALGONQUIN HOTEL on Sunday nights, is a semi-open mic event and has been extremely popular, selling out week after week. This is indeed unfortunate - the producer assure me that an update will be coming shortly - stay tuned.

Or it could be material that reminds you of a real-life first experience - your first date, your first summer in NY, etc. Hector chose this theme because on May 5th he will be premiering his first solo cabaret show at Don't Tell Mama. NYC: JULIE REYBURN MAKES HER FEINSTEIN'S DEBUT

Award Winning Vocalist Julie Reyburn makes her Feinstein's debut on January 6th in a special One Night Only performance of her show "It's A New World" at FEINSTEIN'S at the REGENCY HOTEL (540 Park Avenue, NYC - 212-339-4095) on Tuesday, January 6th at 8:30 pm. This brand new show was created specifically to celebrate the occasion! Directed by Peter Napolitano, Julie is joined by her longtime Musical Director, Mark Janas and Bassist Ritt Henn performing a unique collection of celebrated standards, Broadway classics, and new works soon to become part of the American Songbook. Composers/Lyricists include Stephen Sondheim, Richard Rodgers, Lorenz Hart, Maltby & Shire, Janas & Napolitano, Alec Wilder, Harold Arlen, E.Y. Harburg, Ira Gershwin, Vernon Duke, Henry Mancini & Johnny Mercer and Irving Berlin. Julie is a multi-award winning singer, actor and recording artist who has appeared in many of the top clubs in Manhattan. Her ability to connect to a lyric with unique interpretations has established her as one of New York's celebrated female vocalist. She is the first ever Nightlife Award recipient for Outstanding Female Vocalist in 2003 and again in 2005 as a finalist. There is a $30 cover charge, plus a $25 food/drink minimum.

NO ALGONQUIN SALON SUNDAY DECEMBER 14TH

Salon Secretary Peter Napolitano reports that there will be NO SALON this SUNDAY, DECEMBER 14th.  But be of good cheer!  He also reports that THE ALGONQUIN SALON, hosted by Mark Janas in the lobby of the historic Algonquin Hotel,  will return on SUNDAY, DECEMBER 21st, from 7 to 10PM, as they put their own special twist on the Holiday season with "MERRY SOLSTICE!", in honor of the fact that the Winter Solstice falls on that date.  Of course, the Salon will also be celebrating Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Festivus and any other holiday you want to sing about. Special co-hosts on the 21st will be The Definitely Dickens Holiday Carolers, a wonderful a capella quartet mostly comprised of Salon regulars.  You are invited to join them for an evening of yuletide words and music with our warm, welcoming Salon family. No cover.
