CHICAGO: JEFF DEAN PRESENTS "JOHNNY MERCER: DREAM" AT THE SKOKIE

Jeff Dean brings his show "Johnny Mercer: Dream" toTHE SKOKIE THEATRE (7924 Lincoln Avenue, Skokie, IL - 847-677-7761) on Thursday, March 10th at 8:00 pm. The show is part of a mini-Mercer celebration that historian Charles Troy and Jeff have planned. Troy's multimedia presentation entitled "The Just-Too-Marvelous Johnny Mercer" was presented on March 1st & 2nd. Describing the Georgia-born lyricist is no easy task. He wrote 1500 songs along side 230 different composers, songs so versatile and adaptable that it's hard to imagine they all came from the same man. Compare the hillbilly slang of any song from "Li'l Abner" to the brooding "One For My Baby," and the hip "Satin Doll" to the poetic "Days of Wine and Roses". Joining Jeff is musical director Beckie Menzie, doubling as Johnny's wife, Ginger. There is a $22 cover.

NYC: BROCHU AND SCHALCHLIN AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM

Partners on stage and off, Singer-Songwriter Steve Schalchlin and Actor-Singer Jim Brochu present an evening of stories and songs from their Off-Broadway musicals "The Last Session" and "The Big Voice: God or Merman?" at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Thursday, February 17th at 7:00 pm. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of "The Last Session" and the 10th anniversary of "The Big Voice," Drama Desk winner Brochu and Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle winner Schalchlin will talk about the creation of their musicals and present songs from both shows. Produced by Stephen Hanks, special guests include original "Last Session" stars Michele Mais ("Rock of Ages") and two-time Tony nominee, Bob Stillman. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
