NYC: METROPOLITAN ROOM'S 8TH ANNUAL METROSTAR TALENT CHALLENGE

The sixth night of the Metropolitan Room's 8th Annual MetroStar Talent Challenge will take place at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Monday, August 10th at 7:00 pm The contest began on Monday, July 6th and runs for eight consecutive Mondays through August 24th. "MetroStar" encourages singers to present well-rounded stage performances in which creativity, innovation and authenticity are prized over vocal fireworks. Open to solo singers and vocal duos of all ages, backgrounds and styles who have not played a major engagement at the Metropolitan Room, which is defined as a 4-show prime-time run of the same show in a fixed period. "MetroStar" offers a career-boosting package of prizes and professional encouragements, including a fully produced primetime Met Room engagement and live recording. There is a $22.50 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: CLIFTON DAVIS - BROADWAY AND BEYOND

Clifton Davis, actor/ singer/ composer/ producer, brings his show "Broadway & Beyond" to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Monday, August 10th at 9:30 pm. For more than 40 years Clifton Davis has shared his unique gifts with audiences around the world. Davis is probably best known for his 5-year run as Reverend Rueben Gregory on the popular NBC television series, "Amen," which continues in reruns on cable TV. His earlier series, "That's My Mama, served to established him as a widely known actor and television star. Raised on Long Island, he began his career in New York City in the Broadway show, Hello Dolly. Six years and five Broadway shows later, Davis was a Tony Award nominee for Two Gentlemen of Verona. He then headed to Hollywood and the rest is history. Currently, Davis has returned to Broadway in the hit Disney musical, "Aladdin" as the Sultan. Prior to Aladdin, Davis completed a 16 month run in the First National Broadway Tour of "Wicked" portraying Dr. Dillamond. In recent years, Mr. Davis has appeared in such films as "Any Given Sunday", "Halloweentown High", "Kingdom Come", "Max Keeble's Big Move", "Soldiers of Change" and "The Climb". He has also been a guest star on such shows as, "Mr. Box Office," "The First Family," and "Political Animals". Clifton Davis' extensive experience, both in Broadway musicals and as a Motown composer, has influenced his style and taste in music. In his showroom performances, he embraces the Great American Songbook and adds some contemporary pop/jazz renditions. Davis received a Grammy nomination for his hit composition, "Never Can Say Goodbye." As a singer and recording artist, he has performed in concert around the world and enjoyed success with his album "Gospel Greats," on Verity Records. There is a $35 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: TURN THE BEAT AROUND: 54 BELOW CELEBRATES STUDIO 54

Long before 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) was home to cabaret legends, it was home to the glory - and the decadence - that was STUDIO 54. In the legendary club's heyday the guest list was a who's who from the world of entertainment - Andy Warhol, Liza Minnelli, Halston, Elizabeth Taylor, Mick Jagger, Diana Ross, Brooke Shields, John Travolta, Michael Jackson - and the music played kept them dancing all through the night. on Monday, August 10th, the club will "Turn the Beat Around" as it will "Celebrate, Good Times" and salute Studio 54 from its opening night to the "Last Dance" with performances at 7:00 & 9:30 pm. NYC: JOE'S PUB PRESENTS 'ONE GOOD MAN'

'One Good Man', a comedy about the trials and tribulations of becoming an adult, will be presented on Monday, August 10th at 7:00 pm at JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555). Through his hilarious storytelling and wild characters, Brandon Kyle Goodman takes audiences on a personal journey revealing secrets, thoughts, and advice on dating, sex, being Black, and what it takes to be that "One Good Man" we're all looking for. There is a $16 cover.

NYC: LUIZ CARACOL TRIO WITH SPECIAL GUEST ELEANOR DUBINSKY

Luiz Caracol, a Portuguese singer, songwriter and guitarist whose music has a strong mix of influences from Portugal, Brazil and Africa, comes to JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Monday, August 10th at 9:30 pm. He will perform his album Devagar for the first time in the US, collaborating in trio with percussionist Ruca Rebord•o and Brazilian viola caipira player Gustavo Roriz. This virtuosic, emotive trio creates a vibrant sound that makes our heart beat fast and puts a smile into our souls. All members of this remarkable trio have successful international careers playing with well-know artists such as Sara Tavares, Aline Fraz•o, Fernanda Abreu, Uxia, Tito Paris, Alejandro Sanz, R•o Kyao, Paulo de Carvalho, Ant•nio Chainho, Melody Gardot, Ivan Linz, Martinho da Vila, Faf• de Bel•m or the group Madredeus, among others. Devagar was the best selling Album in May and June 2013 in Fnac and the most played Album in Portugal Spotify in August 2013. Eleanor Dubinsky is a New York City based singer-songwriter, cellist, guitarist and performance artist. Singing in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese, her music combines melodic, soothing vocals with grooves inspired by Brazilian, Latin American and Cape Verdean traditions. In 2014 Eleanor and Gustavo Roriz toured as a duo throughout Portugal, sparking this growing collaboration with the Luiz Caracol Trio. There is a $15 cover.

NYC: NATALIE DOUGLAS IN "HELLO DOLLY ... THE MUSIC OF DOLLY PARTON"

The Broadway at Birdland concert series presents the return of singer Natalie Douglas to BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) stage on Monday, August 10 at 7:00 pm. Her show "Hello Dolly: The Music of Dolly Parton", is a celebration of the beloved singer, actor, and songwriter. Natalie Douglas, celebrated vocalist and recent host of the Sunday night Birdland Jazz Party, returns to the historic room in after a smashing NYC September debut & a triumphant weeklong run in London, and May debut in NYC. Douglas brings back this popular program, in which she pays tribute to another notably buxom performer: the beloved singer, actor, songwriter and Broadway composer Dolly Parton. Featured music includes original Parton compositions like "Jolene", "Coat of Many Colors", and "I Just Might" from the Broadway musical 9 to 5, in addition to tunes Dolly creatively covered like Neil Young's "After The Gold Rush" and Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice." Natalie will be joined by her longtime Musical Director Mark Hartman (Broadway's Avenue Q, Sondheim on Sondheim) on piano, accordion and mandolin, and her talented band of Broadway All-Stars. Natalie Douglas, the seven-time MAC Award Winner, and Backstage Bistro Award Winner has garnered rave reviews for her unique blend of jazz, blues, standards, pop, folk and country music. Recent tributes include being awarded The 2014 Margaret Whiting Award onstage at Carnegie Hall from the Mabel Mercer Foundation and then in September 2014 Natalie's portrait was added to the legendary Birdland Jazz Club Wall of Fame. Her recent performances include concerts across the U.S. (Carnegie Hall, Birdland, Cafe Carlyle, and Jazz at Lincoln Center's Appel Room) and on three continents (NYC, Montenegro, Greece, Corsica, PuertoVallarta, London, Buenos Aires, Cancun & Germany). In November, Natalie enjoyed her third weeklong run in less than two years at her London concert home, The Crazy Coqs with her brand new critically acclaimed show, "Hello Dolly": The Music of Dolly Parton. As an actor, she has appeared in 18 editions of The A-train plays at the Neighborhood Playhouse, The Peter Sharp Theatre and New World Stages and in The People vs. Mona, by the writers of Pumpboys & Dinettes. Natalie made her feature debut in the horror film, "The Camera's Eye", appeared in the ABC series "Cupid", a national commercial for Disney's Broadway show, Mary Poppins, and can also be seen with her handsome husband, showing off the good education her parents paid for on The Discovery Channel's Cash Cab. NYC: JIM CARUSO'S "CAST PARTY" MONDAYS AT BIRDLANDFEATURED OPEN MIC EVENT

Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle.
