TORONTO: SUNDAY CABARET WITH YVETTE COLEMAN & FLORIAN HOEFNER

Soprano Yvette Coleman, a native of Newfoundland, now residing in Toronto, will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Sunday, December 4th at 7:00 pm. She is accompanied by Florian Hoefner at the piano. Coleman is lauded for her virtuosity; captivating audiences with manifold styles of voice including opera, art song, jazz, folk, and musical theatre. A pupil of internationally renowned soprano Elizabeth McDonald, Yvette is now a graduate of The University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Performance voice. She has trained at the Vancouver International Song Institute, Boston University Tanglewood Institute and The St. Andrews' Vocal Technique Program. She recently returned from The Center for Opera Studies in Sulmona, Italy performing in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea under the direction of Timothy Nelson. Yvette ranked first in the Newfoundland Provincial voice competition and was a two time winner of Rotary festival junior and senior rosebowls for voice. She gained distinction in the Classical Singer Competition in New York and earned first class distinction at NATS in Toronto, Ontario. She was the recipient of The Craig L. Hoyt, Randall Marsh & Kristopher Waterman Memorial awards for music and was granted scholarship to The Manhattan School of Music, University of Toronto (accepted) , McGill University and Queens University. Separate of the classical world, Yvette has thrived as a working artist for the past five years at The Gros Morne Summer Music Festival as well as a featured performer at The Woody Point Writers Festival. Collaborating with musicians from Asia, United States, Netherlands, and Canada, Yvette has learned from highly reputable and established musicians since a young age and was instrumental in the ensemble formed by these artists known as 'Dark by Five' as the solo vocalist, actress and dancer. Together with strings, percussion, piano, and woodwinds the ensemble is celebrated for stretching the boundaries of the classical tradition and achieving a perfect marriage of classical music, drama and dance with an expansive set of repertoire under the theatrical direction of Rachel Peake. Yvette has world premiered composer Jason Nett's major works, 'Trolley Car', 'Cab Fare' and 'Splash' and has also premiered Welsh composer Bernard Kane's 'Lie still, sleep, be calmed' in London, England at The Dylan Thomas Festival with the Kane String Players. She will join The Kane Players again this fall to sing Kane's new work - 'Hunchback' in New York City. There is a $15 cover.
