NYC: THE BENNY GREEN TRIO AT BIRDLAND

Benny Green Trio will perform at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Tuesday through Saturday, October 15th through 19th with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. Benny Green is a hard bop jazz pianist who was a member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. He has been compared to Bud Powell in style and counts him as an influence. There is a $35-$45 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: KENNY G AT THE BLUE NOTE

Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Kenny G will perform at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Thursday through Sunday, October 17th through 20th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. In a recording career that spans almost three decades and 24 albums, Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Kenny G has grafted elements of R&B, pop, and Latin music to a jazz foundation, solidifying his reputation as the premier artist in contemporary jazz. Since the early '80s, his combination of unparalleled instrumental chops and indelible melodies has resulted in sales of more than 75 million records worldwide (45 million in the U.S. alone) and more than a dozen climbs to the top of Billboard's Contemporary Jazz chart. After the success of Rhythm and Romance (2008) and Heart and Soul (2010), the second of which was a return to the classic R&B sounds of his Seattle childhood, Kenny has taken a step in a new direction with his latest release, Namaste India (2012). A collaboration with Indian santoor player and vocalist Rahul Sharma, the album captures both the natural meditative sound of Indian classical music and the flamboyant jazz melodies of the saxophone. There is a $45 cover.

NYC: DAVY KNOWLES WITH SPECIAL GUEST NEAL EVANS

Blues guitarist and singer Davy Knowles will perform atIRIDIUM JAZZ CLUB (1650 Broadway, NYC - 212-582-2121) on Thursday, October 17th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Knowles, formerly of the blues-rock band Back Door Slam, is now working as a solo artist under the name Davy Knowles and Back Door Slam. With Back Door Slam, he played lead guitar and sang on their debut album, Roll Away. After a split-up with bassist Adam Jones and drummer Ross Doyle, Knowles released his first solo album, Coming Up for Air, on May 19, 2009. Knowles drew his musical influences from blues musicians that he grew up listening to such as Dire Straits, Peter Green, and Eric Clapton'sCream. Due to his home country's proximity to Ireland, Knowles has stated that his music also is influenced by the Celtic genre, which is noted to be present in the song "Roll Away". In April 2009, Knowles toured with British guitarist Jeff Beck on his American tour, where he was the opening act. He toured with Joe Satriani and Chickenfoot in the United States through December 2009. Davy Knowles toured with The Rhythm Devils in 2010. There is a $27.50 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.

NYC: JUILLIARD JAZZ ENSEMBLE AT DIZZY'S

The Juilliard Jazz Ensemble will perform at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Thursday, October 19th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. The Juilliard School has been a destination for world-class music education since its founding, and these incredible young musicians will exemplify that legacy. The Juilliard Jazz Ensemble features some of the world's most talented emerging jazz artists, many of whom are already professional musicians. No stranger to Dizzy's Club, the Ensemble has also performed at noted venues such as the Blue Note and Alice Tully Hall. These gifted young musicians are proof of jazz's bright future. There is a $30 cover.
