Ms. Hall's debut solo show will pay tribute to the life and legend of one of the true icons of the twentieth century. Marlene Dietrich began her career in the fabled cabarets and revues of 1920s Berlin, conquered Hollywood as one of its most beautiful and fascinating stars, took a brave stand as a German against Hitler during World War II, and, later in life, reinvented herself as a cabaret and concert artist. In Grand Illusions, Janice Hall explores the woman and the myth through her music and reinterprets many of Dietrich's famous songs, bringing to them the beauty and distinctive quality of her own voice as well as her considerable dramatic gifts. The show features Berlin cabaret songs, jazz standards, French chansons, folk songs, and, of course, Dietrich's famous film songs. The show features music of Friedrich Hollaender, Cole Porter, Lerner and Loewe, Fats Waller, Robert Stolz, Charles Trenet, and Pete Seeger.
