HERE & THERE - PART I - BLOG EDITION plus reminder on making reservations

HERE & THERE - PART I

The heat wave continues unabated, and it is keeping me pretty close to home these days. But (fingers crossed) I am hoping to make it to THE TOWN HALL tonight for the second show or their 4th ANNUAL SUMMER BROADWAY FESTIVAL at 8:00 pm. The series, created, written and hosted by Scott Siegel for The Town Hall will present BROADWAY'S RISING STARS tonight and it is once again directed by Nightlife Award-winning vocalist Scott Coulter. It features "the next generation of Broadway performers" who were chosen during auditions throughout the spring from theatrical institutions across the country. This annual event is always an exciting evening as the newcomers perform for the audience of 1500. Details in the listings below.

It's beginning to sound like a broken record, but once again I remind you to MAKE THOSE RESERVATIONS! Some rooms, at least here in NYC, will cancel a show if the number of reservations is not above a certain minimum on the day before the show - and the performers will lose their room deposit and/or will have to pay a room fee regardless. I know its much easier to just show up without a reservations, and frankly for some rooms you need to be a computer scientist or at least a patient cabaret fan to make a reservation. But to do this is not fair to the venue or the performer. Both lose if they have to cancel a show for lack of reservations.

Remember too, most venues, unless they are actually paying a guaranteed a fee to a performer (happening less and less these days), do not promote your show for you much beyond a listing on their website and/or a schedule mailing at the beginning of the month to the press and customers on their mailing list. A few rooms do provide expanded listings that include show and bio information, but if they don't have your information in time, you lose out.

Keep in mind that CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, if you send us a complete press release, will include your show information at no charge in the newsletter, and send it out to 2700 subscribers and publish it on our website. Your press release should include: Title of show - Dates & times of performance - Venue (including address, reservation phone number and website url) - Performer name(s) - Musical director - Director - Cover Charge - Minimum - plus short description of the show and short bio of the principal performer(s). Send releases to my e-mail address stuhamstra@svhamstra.com . A headshot jpg sent as an attachment will attract more readers to your item. Remember, a flier or a website URL link sent by e-mail or regular mail is NOT a press release.
Unseen, untold, is unsold.
