NYC: SHARON McNIGHT IN"TWISTED XMAS: A DRUID'S VIEW OF THE HOLIDAYS"

NYC: SHARON McNIGHT IN"TWISTED XMAS: A DRUID'S VIEW OF THE HOLIDAYS"

DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) presents the return of Tony Award nominee Sharon McNight for her new Christmas show fon Monday, December 10th at 7:00 pm; Wednesday, December 12th at 7:00 pm; Friday, December 14th at 9:15 pm; and Monday, December 17th at 7:00 pm. "Twisted Xmas: A Druid's View of the Holidays" is an irreverent look at the traditions of the season. Over the past decades, during the holidays, while Debby Boone touted a White Christmas and Bruce Vilanch roasted his chestnuts over an open fire, Sharon McNight offered an alternative choice from the expected songs. She has stockpiled myriad and outrageous, wacky musical commentaries on the 12 days of everything from Santa, Jesus, Teddy Bears, Elves, Snow, and of course ... Bette Davis. Sharon Mcnight made her Broadway debut in 1989 in Starmites, creating the role of Diva. She received a Tony Award nomination as "Best Leading Actress in a Musical" for her performance, and is the recipient of the coveted Theatre Worlds Award for "Outstanding Broadway Debut." The singer/comedienne's regional credits include Amanda McBroom's Heartbeats at the Pasadena Playhouse, and an award winning Dolly in Hello, Dolly! at the Peninsula Civic Light Opera. Sharon was Sister Hubert in Nunsense in Los Angeles and San Francisco, where she received the Bay Area Critics Circle award for "Best Performance in a Musical". She is the narrator of the documentary, There That Night, the story of the Provincetown, Massachusetts fire, and was featured in the A&E documentary, It's Burlesque, for her research on Mae West and Sophie Tucker. There is a $30 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

SF: THE FAMILY STONE FEATURING ORIGINAL FOUNDING MEMBERS

SF: THE FAMILY STONE FEATURING ORIGINAL FOUNDING MEMBERS

RRAZZ ROOM at THE HOTEL NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-394-1189) will present Rock & Roll Hall of Fame funk/rock group, THE FAMILY STONE from Thursday through Sunday, December 6th through 9th (showtimes vary so see website). The engagement features original founding members and R&B Pioneer Award Winners, Jerry Martini, Cynthia Robinson and Greg Errico. The show will also feature Alex Davis and Trina Johnson on vocals, Nate Wingfield on guitar and musical director Blaise Sison on bass. The first inter-racial / inter-gender band in Rock & Roll history bring you the hits of The Family Stone such as "I Want to Take You Higher," "Everyday People," "Dance To The Music," "Hot Fun In The Summertime," "Family Affair" and "Sing a Simple Song." Back in 1967, when the interracial, mixed-gender combo burst onto the scene with their debut album, the burgeoning rock & roll subculture was hungry for fresh kicks and different sounds. But no one was quite prepared for the magical, multi-faceted musical mix Sly and company served up. Their music was an inspired blend of rock, soul, pop, jazz, and an emerging genre soon to be dubbed funk. It packed a powerful, joyous wallop, delivering all the things one hoped to find in music: The thrill of the new, the excitement of the unexpected, a galvanizing groove, and lyrics that actually said something. The Family Stone continues giving you the musical experience that has brought them in front of over half a million people through Europe and the US; spreading the roots of funk and Rock & Roll. There is a $40-$45 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: CHARLES CASTRONOVO CD RELEASE SHOW

54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) enters the word of professional opera when acclaimed tenor Charles Castronovo takes to the stage for three special performances only. On Thursday, December 6th at 9:30 pm & Saturday, December 8th at 11:00 pm, he'll be jumping in a cab following his performance in Don Giovanni at the METROPOLITAN OPERA in Lincoln Center to join 54 BELOW to a celebration of his new CD, Dolci Napoli, The Neapolitan Songs, featuring new interpretations of classic songs from Italy with his band, Sweet Nectar. Charles captures the spirit of Naples in English and Italian, introducing these songs to new audiences in the same manner as the great Italian-American singers of the last generation, but with a beautiful operatic voice that does them justice. There is a $25-$35 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
