NYC: CLINT HOLMES IN "REMEMBERING BOBBY SHORT"

THE CAFE CARLYLE (35 East 76th Street, NYC - 212-744-1600), in association with Cecelia Joyce Johnson will present acclaimed singer Clint Holmes in "Remembering Bobby Short," a musical tribute to the entertainer who appeared at the legendary New York nightspot for over thirty-five years (1968-2004). Performances will be Tuesdays through Saturdays, October 11th through 29th at 8:45 pm. "Remembering Bobby Short" is a narrative of Bobby Short's amazing life, the qualities that made him an icon, his accomplishments and importance in the history of American song. Songs by Cole Porter, Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh, Duke Ellington, Rodgers & Hart, and others will be interpreted by Clint Holmes in a musical journey that reflects the history of Bobby Sort's illustrious career at the Cafe Carlyle. Mr. Holmes will be accompanied by his Musical Director/Arranger Jeffrey Neiman (piano), Jay Leonhart (bass) and Sherrie Maricle (drums). The evening will be directed by Larry Moss. There is a $75 cover Tuesday through Thursday and an $85 on Fridays & Saturdays. Dinner is required for all shows.

Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night in October at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

Since 1994 when Nicholas Payton made his recording debut as a leader with "From This Moment," the trumpeter has been lauded as one of the leading young instrumental voices in jazz. Even though he started out as a "young lion," one of the new generation guardians of the swing and bebop flames, the 38-year-old Payton has devoted himself to discovering sounds outside of strict traditional confines. Having grown up in a family and community of musicians in New Orleans, Payton has built his unique voice by melding a post-bop foundation, a heavy emphasis on groove, a soulful history and various experimental elements. Charles Osgood, often referred to as CBS News' poet-in-residence, has been anchor of CBS News Sunday Morning since 1994. He also anchors and writes "The Osgood File," his daily news commentary broadcast on the CBS Radio Network. Osgood's commentaries draw one of the largest audiences of any network radio feature. He has been an anchor and reporter for many CBS News broadcasts, including the CBS Morning News, the CBS Evening News With Dan Rather and the CBS Sunday Night News. Before joining CBS News in September 1971, Osgood was an anchor/reporter for WCBS News Radio 88 in New York (1967-71). Prior to that, he worked for ABC News, was the general manager of WHCT-TV Hartford, Conn., and the program director and manager of WGMS Radio Washington, D.C. Popular singer Eddie Bruce returns toFEINSTEIN'S at the Regency Hotel (540 Park Avenue, NYC - 212-339-4095) on Sunday & Monday, October 9th & 10th at 8:30 pm. Presenting a new show filled with surprises, Bruce pays a unique, must-see tribute to the music made popular by Frank Sinatra and his collaboration with the legendary lyricist Sammy Cahn, as well as Sammy Davis, Jr. and many others. He is joined by music director Tom Adams and his trio. A media personality in Philadelphia, Bruce was the original host of a popular dance television show "Dancin' on Air" that went on to be the national "Dance Party USA". Well known for his multi-octave range and expressive vocals, Marcus remains one of today's most acclaimed and versatile interpreters of a song. FEATURED CABARET BENEFIT EVENT

Ralph Lampkin, Jr. and Lampkin Music Group are excited to bring cabaret to the newly renovated STAGE 773 CABARET ROOM(1225 West Belmont Street, Chicago, IL - 773-327-5252) in a series of Saturday night concerts, concluding with a New Year's Eve performance featuring Chicago favorite Hollis Resnik with musical director Doug Peck. The series continues on Saturday, October 8th at 8:00 pm, featuring Chicago singer/ actor/ director, Stephen Rader as he "Sings a Song He Wants Too". Portions of ticket sales will be donated to three non-profit - the Gay and Lesbian Hall of FamePride Films and Plays , and Season of Concern . There is an $18 cover.

NJ: NEXT LAURA HULL JAZZ CRUISE SUPPER CLUB

Acclaimed jazz vocalist-songwriter Laura Hull will set sail on her next monthly jazz cruise series aboard Spirit Cruises of New Jersey on Saturday, October 8th. The Spirit of New Jersey departs from Lincoln Harbor in Weehawken and cruises around New York Harbor from 8:00 to 11:00 pm for dinner and jazz. A native of New York City, Ms. Hull spent her formative years singing at the resorts of upstate New York's fabled Catskill Mountains. In her early career, she worked as a session and jingle singer and showcased her singing at clubs in and around New York City. After a 24-year hiatus from music to pursue a business career, she returned to live performance in 2004 and has been described as first class vocalist with an infectious sense of swing, phrasing and style. Her music is drawn from an extensive repertoire of American popular songs, jazz standards, obscure gems, and her original compositions. Julie Reyburn, Scott Coulter, Kenneth Gartman, Christina Connors and Alex Goley join forces for THE STORIES IN MY MIND: THE SONGS OF DENNIS LIVINGSTON atTHE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440). There are four performances: Saturday, October 8th; Saturday, October 15th; Saturday October 29th; and Sunday, November 27th. All shows are at 4:00 pm. Scott also serves as Director and Kenneth as Music Director. Sometimes surreal, always compelling, the songs of Dennis Livingston are known for their witty lyrics, theatrical flare, vivid imagery and intricate melodies. A touch of the blues here, a soaring ballad there, the sudden breakout of a samba or tango, a chorus that echoes the 19th century art song - you never know what's around the corner in these musical tales of life in our time. Dennis' songs have been performed by some of the leading cabaret artists in solo and group shows, including those held by the MAC-ASCAP Songwriters Showcase, the New York Sheet Music Society and Theater Resources Unlimited. Recordings of his songs can be heard on CDs from Chris Coleman, Lua Hadar, Robyn Spangler and Dane Vannatter, as well as at his website (www.dennislivingston).
