NYC: CLAIRDEE - "A LOVE LETTER TO LENA HORNE" 0CT0BER 12th - AS ADVERTISED IN CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
Jazz vocalist Clairdee will perform at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Wednesday, October 12th at 7:00 pm. Clairdee's moving artistic expression commemorates the groundbreaking singer, actress and activist who personified glamour and was a catalyst for social justice. The program features luminous arrangements of songs associated with Horne, as well as historical references and personal reflections of Horne as a cultural icon. She is joined on stare by Ken Peplowski, clarinet and saxophone; Ken French, piano/music director; George Gray, drums; Marcus McLaurine, bass; and Chuck Redd, vibraphone. Her soulfully alluring style and rich timbre reveal roots in the gospel church. She has an intimate, vulnerable and gentle way with a ballad, yet she can swing or shout at will. With her lustrous voice, heartfelt delivery, and scene-stealing charisma, she has honed a repertoire of standards set to state of the art arrangements that are equally smart and entertaining. As a song stylist and interpreter of lyrics, Clairdee is unmatched. She is aware of the meaning and feeling behind every phrase. And her finely honed sensibility and old-school attitude about the importance of communicating with audiences, is skillfully demonstrated in her gift for putting her own stamp on a song while capturing its essence. With three highly praised albums behind her, the San Francisco-based vocalist is currently working on her newest recording, "A Love Letter to Lena Horne," in support of her 2016-17 concerts celebrating Ms. Horne's centenary. Clairdee is an international touring artist, playing to sold-out houses and garnering rave reviews. In addition to leading her world-class band, she performs with symphony pops orchestras and big bands, and has worked with acclaimed instrumentalists including Bucky Pizzarelli, Boz Scaggs, Cyrus Chestnut, Houston Person, Shelly Berg, Ken Peplowski, and Chuck Redd. And she has opened for numerous artists as diverse as David Sanborn, the Count Basie Orchestra, Johnny Mathis, and the late, great Etta James. There is a $24 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
