NYC: GAY MARRIAGE MUSICAL "THE ENGAYGEMENT" RETURNS

"The Engaygement," a new chamber musical by David Auxier-Loyola, returns to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) monthly (except March) starting Wednesday, February 10th at 7:00 pm. Additional performances are set for Thursday, April 21st; Tuesday, May 24th; and Wednesday, June 22nd - all shows at 7:00 pm. The witty and romantic gay-marriage cabaret show has been testing the waters at the Metropolitan Room since last year in a series of sold-out previews. With music, lyrics and book by Auxier-Loyola, "The Engaygement" is directed by Duncan Pflaster, with arrangements by music director Mark York on piano. The show is a penetrating exploration of a relationship melding two busy New Yorkers into a partnership, works on many levels - social, personal, sexual, not to mention wedding planning. Though it purports to NOT be a story about the battle for marriage equality (which Pflaster slyly points out would make it "a period piece") the socially aware story does glory in the novelty of gay marriage as a new strand in the social fabric. Joining the Bistro Award-winning Auxier in the cast of six are Seph Stanek, Chris-Ian Sanchez, Elliott Mattox, Jason Whitfield and Colleen Harris. The show's creators hope for transition to an Off-Broadway stage and an Off-Broadway premiere. A principal performer, choreographer and co-director of the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, Auxier-Loyola is the creator of the 2009 Bistro Award-winning Gilbert & Sullivan revue "I've Got a Little Twist," which continues to tour the country. He also received a 2007 MAC Award nomination for special musical material. York is the executive producer of The Ziegfeld Society and music coordinator for Jerry Herman. Pflaster is a playwright, director, composer and actor. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
