Well, this is the final week MARCH IS CABARET MONTH and it has been a fantastic one! Opening with the terrific MARCH IS CABARET MONTH GALA on March 2nd, celebrations have been held in Boston, Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles and other cabaret "hot spots" around the country. Our thanks to everyone, especially the cabaret organizations around the country for spreading the word and promoting these special events!

There are MARCH IS CABARET MONTH events this week in Boston (Friday & Saturday) as well as Chicago and Seattle (Sunday) - check the listing below.

About an hour after this issue of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE goes out (noon on Tuesday, the 25th), folks will be gathering at THE BARNES & NOBLE BOOKSTORE (66th Street and Broadway, NYC) (at 1:00 pm) to attend the announcement of the official nominees for the 2010 MAC AWARDS. Then the final ballots will go out to all members of record, and the winners will be announced at the MAC AWARDS CEREMONY at B.B.KINGS BLUES CLUB on Tuesday, May 4th. I won't be attending - to get to Lincoln Square I need to take a 40 minute bus ride and a 50 minute subway ride each way (not counting waiting time), and that's just a few more minutes and a few more sets of stairways to climb up and down for your's truly. Three hours in transit for a 30 minute presentation simply isn't worth it for a non-nominee. We should be getting a press release this afternoon via e-mail, which I will put on the blog (see below) and then add the proper html code and put it on the website.

It looks like I'll be home all day anyway. I was at the fantastic "Broadway By The Year" show at THE TOWN HALL on Monday night, and quite possibly "stayed too long at the fair". It was such a terrific evening (each Scott Siegel show seems to be even better than the last) and both my pal Daniel and I met so many great folks after the show at the party for cast & press, we didn't leave until after midnight - and it was raining. Now, I know you don't get a cold from being in the rain. You get a cold from someone else - but being in the rain (and getting up at 5:30 am to write Monday's newsletter) simply weakened my immune system enough to let me catch this cold. Now, I am no longer one to take chances (you should have known me 10-15 years or more ago), so I'm hanging around the house until the runny nose and sore throat goes away - and before it goes beyond simple discomfort!

David Kenney has had to reformat his long-running EVERYTHING OND IS NEW AGAIN radio program, heard on Sunday nights fro 9:00 to 11:00 pm and can no longer "spotlight" just one performer, because of federal regulations, specifically the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). The DMCA is a federal law passed by Congress in 1996. Its rules for air-play are as follows: During a three hour period one may play no more than three songs from a particular album; no more than two songs consecutively from a particular album; no more than four songs by a particular artist; no more than four songs from a boxed set; and no more than three songs consecutively from a boxed set. (If you thing the government is getting intrusive, you "ain't seen nutten" yet!) So now David's show - one of the last to present "our music" on a regular schedule - will spotlight two or more personalities from cabaret, Broadway and/or film. See the listings below for this Sunday's featured duo.

Starting with the Thursday, March 25th issue, items regarding benefits, cabaret festivals and cabaret organization events (which up to now appeared in every issue) will only appear in the MONDAY issues, or, during the actual week of the event, the issue closest to the event date. We are adding extra pages on the website where these events will be posted for prompt lookup, and they always appear in the DIARY/DATEBOOK section.

All shows giving discounts to members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE will continue to be listed in the Thursday issue and included in the Saturday "Members Only" issue the week before the event. There is a special page on the website where these shows are listed for prompt lookup, and they too always appear in the DIARY/DATEBOOK section.

Of course events advertising on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website will be included in both the Monday & Thursday issues of the newsletter.

Finally, we will be re-naming the DIARY/DATEBOOK section to simply LISTINGS over the weekend (takes a bit of work).

By the way, the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE "straw poll" is back - and "ballots" will be sent to all members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE to make their choices for their favorite nominees for the 2010 MAC AWARDS. More details on this in the MEMBERS ONLY issue going out on Saturday. We will be giving updated tallies in each Saturday issue on the "straw poll" totals.

There will be "A Toast to Earl" - an informal gathering to remember Earl Wentz, for friends, family, colleagues, students and others at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788 - ) on Sunday, March 28th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. A pianist will be provided if you wish to perform - please bring music/lead sheets in your key. If you plan to attend, please e-mail Bill Watkins at williamwatkins@earthlink.com so that he can let MAMA'S have a count for staffing purposes. Cash bar. Earl Wentz and his personal project, the Great American Composer series, http://www.americomps.com/ , which he produced starting in 2000, mostly at DON'T TELL MAMA in NYC. brought to our attention some great songwriters/composers by creating original, multi-performer revues, and at the same time, he exposed us to hundreds of great vocalists.
