JAX HGHTS: THREE DAY CELEBRATION OF THE "FLIGHT OF THE STORK"

The 4th of July celebrations mark the start of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE editor Stu Hamstra's personal birthday celebration - the actual birth date is on the 6th - but we have it on good authority that the original birth date was to be on the 4th but the stork was unable to make delivery because it was frightened off by fireworks and circled for 2 extra days. Thus, it is always celebrated for all three days - July 4th, 5th & 6th - as "The Flight of the Stork", which means no CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE newsletter on Thursday, July 5th. There will be dancing in the streets, children in stork costumes, gifts will be exchanged, the annual STORK PARADE on 37th Avenue (Jackson Heights), a diaper changing contest (no real babies will be used), a stork flyover each day at noon (no real babies will be used) and special evening events all around Jackson Heights late into the night (the paramedics will be on alert as well as the paparazzi).

The third annual MELBOURNE CABARET FESTIVAL will burst out across Melbourne from Thursday through Saturday, July 12th through 21st. As one of Victoria's fastest growing festivals it has now expanded to ten nights across nine venues throughout the city. The festival hub venues are Chapel Off Chapel and the Kew Court House. All 35 shows are now on sale. The Festival also features a professional development program alongside it. This is free for participants thanks to financial support from the Ron and Margaret Dobell Foundation. One activity under this program is a FREE panel discussion about crowdfunding to be held on Monday, July 16th at 7:00 pm at CHAPEL OFF CHAPEL (12 Little Chapel Street, Melbourne, VIC, AUS - 03 8290 7000 - ) . NYC: MEMORIAL CELEBRATION FOR BRADSHAW SMITH MONDAY, JULY 9TH

A Memorial Celebration For Bradshaw Smith (Applause Video and Broadway Beat Founder) will be held on Monday, July 9th at 4:00 pm at PERSHING SQUARE SIGNATURE CENTER (480 West 42nd Street, NYC). A reception will follow in the Signature Theatre's Cafe and Bar. Bradshaw Smith died on January 16, 2012, at age 57, following a sudden and severe stroke. A native of Derby, CT, Brad moved to New York City in the mid 70s. As a cabaret performer he won the first Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs (MAC) Award for Best Male Vocalist and later also won a Bistro Award. In 1990, he received the MAC Board of Directors Award for his cable television show Cabaret Beat. Applause Video was one of BROADWAY CARES/EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS first and longtime major donors. The company's table at the annual Broadway Flea Market was always a top earner. Bradshaw's brother, Robert Smith, stated that donations in Bradshaw Smith's name may be sent to Broadway Cares in his brother's honor. The theme this year is "WE'RE JUST GONNA HAVE FUN!" SF: THE TOMMY IGOE BIG BAND AT THE RRAZZ

The Tommy Igoe Big Band will perform at RRAZZ ROOM at THE HOTEL NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-394-1189) on Mondays through August 27th at 7:30 pm, featuring 15 of the Bay Area's finest musicians, including members of Tower of Power, Santana and The Doobie Brothers. Drummer Tommy Igoe's Big Band is the hottest big band in NYC, and has been playing to sold out audiences every Friday night at the famed BIRDLAND for the past five years. He brings the same musical acumen to San Francisco, and endeavors to change the face of nightlife on Mondays. Following it's sold-out Los Angeles premier, singer and dancer Seth Hampton will bring his one-man show "Gotta Move" to THE ARTHUR NEWMAN THEATRE at the JOSLYN CENTER THEATRE (73-750 Catalina Way, Palm Desert, CA - TKTS: 760-325-2731 - ) on Sunday, July 1st at 2:00 pm as part of the Sundays In Summer Cabaret Series presented by Les Michaels and Life Is A Cabaret Entertainment. "Gotta Move" is directed by Broadway and cabaret star Jason Graae who helped Seth put together the perfect combination of songs and stories that bring out both his strong voice and his extensive dance back ground, especially tap dancing. Seth's dance ability along with his good looks recently landed him the role of Don Lockwood in a revival of the hit musical "Singing In The Rain". The role required him to tap his way through number after number, including the iconic solo made famous by Gene Kelly for which the movie version was named and from which the stage adaption was written. Tony Award nominee Brian d'Arcy James launches his New York City solo concert debut with his show "Under The Influence" at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551 - ) for 7 performances, Tuesday through Saturday, June 26th through 30th at 8:00 pm with late shows on Friday & Saturday at 11:00 pm. New York knows him from Broadway's Time Stands Still, Next to Normal, Shrek, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, The Apple Tree, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Titanic, among others; television audiences know him from NBC's "Smash" and HBO's Game Change, but now 54 Below audiences will have a chance to see him in his brand new musical offering during its inaugural month. "Under The Influence" is directed by Carl Forsman and features musical direction and arrangements by Dan Lipton. D'Arcy James is backed by Dan Lipton at the piano; Damien Bassman on drums; Greg Joseph on percussion; Nicholas D'Amato on bass; Erik Della Penna on guitar; Paul Vercesi - saxophone; Bob Millikan on trumpet; and Clarke Thorell and Haven Burton on vocals. There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.

NYC: SINGER-SONGWRITER KRISTINE MILLS AT METROPOLITAN ROOM

Houston's sultry songbird Kristine Mills returns to the THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - ) the scene of her New York debut in February, to premiere "Patch of Green," an all-original set of new songs, on Wednesday June 27th, at 9:30 pm. For the show, the award-winning singer-songwriter will perform highlights from her upcoming CD, "As Yet Untitled," and the Concerts for City Greens song contest semifinalist "Patch of Green." Kristine performed "Patch of Green" in its first public performance on June 20th, as a featured guest of the free outdoor summer concert series at Tudor City Greens. At the Metropolitan Room, the Houston native is backed by a trio of New York-based musicians, including the emerging pianist Lafayette Harris, Jr.; acclaimed bassist David Dunaway, and the iconoclastic drummer Jacob Melchior. Featuring music from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Sting, and Jason Robert Brown to Janet Jackson, Watts deals with Faith, Trust, Love, Hope, and Life. This show features the talents of Tanya Holt, Lorinda Lisitza, and Wendy Russell, with Matt Wigton on bass, Tim Lykins on drums, Peter Calo on guitar and Musical Direction by Steven Ray Watkins. Life's a Bitch, and then you sing about it! Lennie Watts is an 8 time MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets), 5 time Bistro, and 3 time Nightlife Award winner. Recognized as an outstanding vocalist, director, producer, and booking manager, he has been active in the New York cabaret scene for over 20 years. In addition to directing in small cabaret venues, he has directed events at Symphony Space, Town Hall, and BB Kings. He has toured nationally and internationally with productions of "The MusicMan" (Marcellus) and "The Wizard Of Oz" (Lion). Other roles: Man in Chair (The Drowsy Chaperone) Psuedelus (A Funny Thing...), Herod (Jesus Christ Superstar), Nicely Nicely Johnson (Guys and Dolls), Jinx (Forever Plaid. He has performed at Town Hall in several concerts, including "Broadway Unplugged" and "Broadway By The Year, 1949", and can be heard on the cast recordings of both shows. As a theater director, he has directed productions of "Godspell", "Dames at Sea", "Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", and "Phantom". Watts is the creator of "cablab" and "Summer In The City", both critically acclaimed professional cabaret performance workshops. SF: THE LEGENDARY TRINI LOPEZ IN "MR. LA BAMBA"

The Legendary Trini Lopez brings his show "Mr. La Bamba" to RRAZZ ROOM at THE HOTEL NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-394-1189) on Tuesday through Saturday, June 26th through 30th at 8:00 pm and Sunday, July 1st at 5:00 pm. Trini Lopez recorded a series of upbeat tunes for Reprise during the mid-'60s, including a smash rendering of the folk standard "If I Had a Hammer" in 1963. The Dallas native cut some Ritchie Valens-influenced rockers for the King label prior to his discovery by producer Don Costa. Lopez's hits capture the excitement of his live performances, and his driving renditions of "Kansas City" (1963), "Lemon Tree" (1965), and "I'm Comin' Home, Cindy" (1966) were substantial sellers. There is a $40-$45 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
