Daryl Sherman will perform solo piano at THE PEACOCK ALLEY RESTAURANT at THE WALDORF-ASTORIA HOTEL (301 Park Avenue, NYC - 212-872-1275) on Wednesdays in August from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The bar & lounge serves exclusive wines and martinis with nightly entertainment by the Cole Porter piano. For 14 years Ms. Sherman played and sang for savvy New Yorkers and international visitors at the Waldorf Astoria's famed Cole Porter Steinway. She has headlined the annual Cole Porter Festival in his hometown of Peru, IN. Sherman has performed at The Algonquin's Oak Room, Feinstein's, Rose Hall with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Dizzy's Coca Cola and 59E59 Theaters. NYC: PARTY MONSTER THE MUSICAL AT 54 BELOW HOSTED BY LEO GUGU

Party Monster The Musical will be performed at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Wednesday, August 27th at 9:30 pm. This one night only presentation, hosted by downtown superstar Leo Gugu will premiere selected songs from Party Monster The Musical. The new EDM musical is based on the memoir Disco Bloodbath: A Fabulous but True Tale of Murder in Clubland by James St James, later renamed Party Monster. This 1999 memoir was nominated for the Edgar Award for best true-crime book of the year, and chronicles St. James' life as a Manhattan celebutante and club kid. An all-original score is composed by Brian Morey (I am Hamlet) with lyrics by Matthew Neff (NYMF's Petrouchka). Blurring the lines between a traditional musical and a rock concert, the show examines two close friends, a group of followers and the consequences of self-indulgence. MIDTOWN JAZZ AT MIDDAY continues at ST. PETER'S CHURCH - SANCTUARY (619 Lexington Avenue, NYC - 212-935-2200) every Wednesday. Midday Jazz Midtown is an ongoing jazz program for the midtown community. Concerts take place in the Sanctuary of Saint Peter's Church and are presented by Midtown Arts Common in cooperation with Saint Peter's Church. Ronny Whyte is the producer. The show on Wednesday, August 27th features 13-year-old trumpet prodigy Geoff Gallante. He will be joined by Dean Johnson (bass) and Ronny Whyte (piano) for a vibrant set of tunes. Performances are at 1:00 pm, $10 donation.

TORONTO: TIA BRAZDA SINGS BILLIE HOLIDAY

Vancouver-born and raised jazz singer, Tia Brazda sings the songs of Lady Day at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Tuesday, August 26th at 8:00 pm in this special one-night performance celebrating the music of Billie Holiday. This show, already having received glowing reviews from the Barrie Jazz and Blues festival will also feature some of Toronto's top local musicians. Tia began her jazz career in 2009 when she appeared as a vocalist on Michael Kaeshammer's "Lovelight" and 2012 Juno-nominated DVD, "Kaeshammer Live". NYC: BIRDLAND PRESENTS THE CHARLIE PARKER BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

Charlie Parker Birthday Celebration, featuring Jeremy Pelt (trumpet), Vincent Herring (sax), Don Friedman (piano), Lonnie Plaxico (bass) and Victor Lewis (drums), will be held at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Tuesday through Saturday, August 26th through 20th with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. Born August 29th, 1920, Charlie "Bird" Parker was one of the most influential and iconic artists in jazz history. As the central figure in the development of bebop in the 1940s Bird was a legendary figure in his own lifetime and was idolized by those who worked with him including Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Bud Powell and Miles Davis. He was the inspiration for Birdland and practically defined its mission as the home for modern jazz in New York City. Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

Born just across the river from New York City in the Garden State of New Jersey, Gwendolyn Collins was blessed with the gift of song. During her early years, Gwendolyn performed with the church choir where her father served as Deacon and later with the chorus in the high school she attended. NYC: STEPHEN WALLEM IN "A BURLY NIGHT MUSIC" AT BIRDLAND

Stephen Wallem presents "A Burly Night Music" at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Monday, August 25th at 7:00 pm. The concert, with direction by Tony-nominee John Tartaglia and musical direction by Beckie Menzie, is a musical and anecdotal retrospective of a very high voice trapped in a very large body. Featuring songs from Wallem's big and/or "simple" guy roles including Shrek in Shrek the Musical, Hazel in Pipe Dreams, and Horton the Elephant in Seussical, as well as songs from Hairspray, Elf, Anna Nicole the Opera, The Land Before Time and The Addams Family, all celebrating the big-boned beauty of Broadway and Hollywood. Stephen Wallem is a SAG Award-nominated actor best known as Thor Lundgren on the Emmy-winning Showtime series "Nurse Jackie", now airing its sixth season. Born and raised in Rockford, Illinois, he worked as a stage actor and After Dark Award-winning cabaret singer in Chicago before moving to New York to make his television debut on "Nurse Jackie." He was recently seen as Horton the Elephant in Seussical at The Muny in St.Louis, and last summer made his professional opera debut in New York City Opera's Anna Nicole following his appearance as Shrek in Shrek the Musical at The Muny. Forging a bond with the Mingus Big Band very early on, as his career progressed, Pelt built upon these relationships and many others which eventually lead to collaborations with some of the genre's greatest masters. These projects include performances and recordings with Cliff Barbaro, Keter Betts, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Ravi Coltrane, Frank Foster, Winard Harper, Jimmy Heath, Vincent Herring, John Hicks, Charli Persip, Ralph Peterson, Lonnie Plaxico, Bobby Short, Cedar Walton, Frank Wess, Nancy Wilson and The Skatalites, to name a few.
