CABARET TONIGHT IN LONDON: LADIES GO-DIVA AT CRAZY COQS

CABARET TONIGHT IN LONDON: LADIES GO-DIVA AT CRAZY COQS

'Ladies Go Diva', an original musical comedy, with gorgeous harmonies and saucy kitchen euphemisms will be presented at THE CRAZY COQS AT BRASSERIE ZEDEL (20 Sherwood St, Piccadilly, London W1F 7ED - 020 7734 4888) on Monday, March 10th at 8:30 pm. Songwriter/performer Helen Goldwyn and fellow 'Ladies' Katherine Mount and Lisa Peace first burst onto the cabaret scene in 2011 to a standing, stamping ovation in their sell-out show at The English Theatre of Hamburg, and have been entertaining audiences ever since. They have all performed in a vast array of cabaret, theatre, TV, and radio and, between them, have over 60 years of experience. With original, swinging music and lyrics, the Ladies' acutely honest observations include songs about singledom, psychotic ambition and Sapphic curiosity, to name but a few. Daring to sing about the quirks of being Ladies-of-a-certain-age in a world where everyone is 'Prettier and Younger' they also celebrate life, love and lust... even if there is 'No Sex in The City'! As a songwriter, Helen Goldwyn has had her work performed by other top cabaret artists and her songs have been featured on BBC TV, radio and in a series of concerts with The National Orchestra of Wales. Call for cover/minimum information.

Here are today's cabaret events as listed on the home page of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE! Every day in every way we're promoting Cabaret! Your event missing? Send press releases to stuhamstra@svhamstra.com to be included - listings are FREE!

SAN FRANCISCO: PAULA WEST IN EXTENDED RUN AT YOSHI'S - CLOSING NIGHT

San Francisco based jazz vocalist Paula West will perform at FEINSTEIN'S AT THE NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 866-663-1063) in a 4-week engagement opening on Thursday, February 13th, with shows running Thursday through Sunday, through March 9th. See website for showtimes. Known for her rich, powerful contralto voice, West will present an all-new show featuring an eclectic range of songs - from memorable jazz standards by Cole Porter and Rodgers and Hart, to contemporary American classics by Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones. Accompanied by her four-piece band, West will take San Francisco audiences on a musical journey through the ages. Born into a Marine Corps family in San Diego, California, Paula West was initially exposed to classical music. It wasn't until college that West began listening to jazz singers such as Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughn. After college, West moved to San Francisco, unsure of what she wanted to do with her life. Buying old records from thrift shops, she studied them and then began singing classes. As she became more secure in her talent, she ventured into jam sessions, places where an open mike gave her a chance to perform before an audience. It was at one of these sessions that she met a pianist who would join her in the climb to her own musical identity and her musical success. His name was Ken Muir, and he continues as her accompanist today. West went on to study with Faith Winthrop, developing her unique tone and delivery. She learned how to sustain a note without a vibrato, which is now almost a Paula West trademark. Tickets are $35-$50 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.

SAN FRANCISCO: YOSHI'S PRESENTS A 'DOUBLE BILL'

A special 'Double Bill' featuring the Kris Bowers Quintet and The Myele Manzanza Trio will be presented at YOSHI'S(1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Sunday, March 9th at 7:00 pm. Pianist Kris Bowers is one of the newest and brightest lights on the jazz landscape. Schooled in jazz and classical music, raised amid the rap and hip-hop of the 1990s, inspired by the cinematic power of the great film composers of recent decades, Bowers' sound - though rooted in traditional styles - is open to numerous external influences that keep the music fresh and vibrant for a new century. This rich and eclectic sensibility is evident from the very first notes of Heroes + Misfits, his debut recording on Concord Jazz. Although considered primarily a jazz artist, Bowers has never been afraid to step outside of the genre's traditional boundaries and dabble in other forms of music. He performed on Watch the Throne, the 2011 collaborative album by hip-hop artists Jay-Z and Kanye West. In addition, he recently composed the score for Seeds of Time, a 2013 documentary by Sandy McCloud about the preservation of naturally occurring seed in an era of genetic engineering in agriculture. Heroes + Misfits, scheduled for release on Concord Jazz in March 2014, is an ambitious debut album that position Bowers at the forefront of a talented sextet and showcases a musical and compositional style that - while clearly rooted in the jazz tradition - is also reflective of an eclectic musical age. There is a $19 cover.
