A STORMY DAY IN GOTHAM

As the saying goes, here in NYC, if you don't like the weather, just wait an hour. That can sum up our forecast for today!

Snow - changing to sleet & freezing rain - changing to all rain - temperatures climbing to near 40 degrees (f) and then tonight dropping to the high 20s turning everything into a frozen mess.

Biggest challenge? Crossing at the crosswalk, as giant slushy puddles form just where you want to cross the street. And an attempt to leap over these frozen moats could end in disaster if you don't land on a dry spot!

SUDDENLY SNOW FREE

I just got back from the deli (around the East Village we call them bodegas) after fulfilling my craving for an Entenmann's Cheese Danish and was expecting to trundle through 5 or 6 inches of snow. Would you believe, after telling us all day we were in for a near-blizzard, the weather people could only come up with a half-inch at most?

And the storm, which was supposed to last all night, seems to have headed north and east!

Now, I'm not complaining, mind you. I used to love the snow (I lived in Michigan for 6 years and you learn to cope). But it took far longer for me to cross the street and navigate the sidewalk than it usually does. I place each foot down very carefully and take my time. And it felt real good to make it there and back without a tumble - no one has bothered to shovel anything yet. The building staff hasn't even spread any salt yet.

So now, as I lick the icing from my fingers, cravings satisfied (at least my hunger cravings) at last, I can get to bed.

Good night, New York!

SNOW FORECAST NYC REVISED

They've upped the ante - the new forecast this morning calls for 4 to 6 inches of snow in Manhattan - and one TV station, probably in the quest for ratings, is saying (hopefully) 8 inches of snow. In any case, there may actually be some show cancellations tonight after all. So check the message board on the website and this blog - and call the performance venue after 4:00 pm before heading to the cabaret.

By the way, snow is a major headache for traffic and mass transit is the way to go. The MTA (Metropolitan Transit Authority) has cancelled all track work for the weekend - all subways will be running on their norman routes according to their normal weekend schedules. Be safe - take the subway, take the bus and leave your valuable and dent-free car at home.

SNOW IN THE FORECAST FOR NYC AREA

With a light 1-2 inches of snow forecast for Saturday (1/10) here in NYC I don't expect any show cancellations - but when it comes to the weather, one never knows for sure.

If you have an event - or know of an event - that has cancelled for this weekend, please be sure to let me know so I can spread the word. You are invited to post your information as a comment to this posting, post in on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE message board on the website, or contact me by e-mail with the information so I can post it myself.

Once again

WISHING YOU A BLESSED AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!
