NYC: MARISSA MULDER: THE SONGS OF TOM WAITS

Marissa Mulder brings her acclaimed show "Tom... In His Words. The Songs of Tom Waits" to 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Thursday, September 10th at 9:30 pm. Mulder, who, since her 2011 MetroStar Talent Challenge win at the METROPOLITAN ROOM, has emerged as one of the most promising singers in New York. In "Tom ... in His Words" Mulder takes Waits at his word, exploring some of his iconic songs ( "Downtown Train" and "Ol' 55"), as well as lesser-known treasures like "Broken Bicycles" and "Alice." Waits, the 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, has always operated on the fringes, blending strains of jazz and the blues, even vaudeville, into his rock ballads and scores. Mulder, who made her cabaret debut in 2010 at Don't Tell Mama, followed that with her critically acclaimed tribute to songwriter Jimmy Van Heusen in 2011. There is a $25 - $60 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
