NYC: BLACKHURST, CARUSO & STRITCH "A SWINGING BIRDLAND CHRISTMAS"

BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) is proud to announce the return of "A Swinging Birdland Christmas" for the fifth year starring Birdland regulars Klea Blackhurst, Jim Caruso and Billy Stritch for 4 performances, Monday through Thursday, December 22nd through 25th at 6:00 pm (7:00 pm on Monday). In the tradition of beloved seasonal specials, Blackhurst, Caruso and Stritch will perform swinging arrangements of "Christmas Waltz," Kay Thompson's "Holiday Season," "Sleigh Ride," and "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm" among other favorites. The singers will be joined by the Birdland Jazz Quartet. Klea Blackhurst has been seen starring in the Goodspeed Opera House production of Hello Dolly and the Nashville production of The Nutty Professor, directed by Jerry Lewis. She was also seen on television, featured as Shelby Cross, former prosecutor and hypercritical pundit on the IFC Channel comedy series, "The Onion News Network." Her vast theatre credits include Rose in Gypsy, Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes, as well as the role of Debbie, the perpetually enthusiastic drummer in the original Off Broadway production of Oil City Symphony. Blackhurst is best known for her acclaimed tribute to Ethel Merman, "Everything the Traffic Will Allow,"that has been charming audiences and critics alike nationwide since its New York debut in 2001. Among many accolades, this production earned her the inaugural Special Achievement Award from "Time Out New York" magazine. The recording of Everything the Traffic Will Allow was named one of the top ten show albums of 2002 by Talkin' Broadway.com. Jim Caruso recently made his Broadway debut alongside Liza Minnelli in the Tony Award-winning smash hit Liza's At The Palace!, singing, dancing and celebrating the music and arrangements of the late, great Kay Thompson and the Williams Brothers. Caruso has won six MAC and two BackStage Bistro Awards for his sold-out New York shows at Birdland, the Algonquin Hotel, and Arci's Place; and has also performed in runs at the Gardenia and Cinegrill in Los Angeles, The Vic Theater in Chicago, Libby's in Atlanta, the Colony Palm Beach Hotel and the Connaught Room in London. He sang with the New York Pops in an all-star tribute to Kander & Ebb at Carnegie Hall, and returned to "The Hall" in a tribute to Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, hosted by Michael Feinstein. He was invited to sing at President Clinton's First State Dinner at the White House, and celebrated Bing Crosby in concert at Carnegie Hall with Rosemary Clooney. For the past ten years, he has hosted a Monday night showbiz bash called "Jim Caruso's Cast Party," which was honored with a New York Nightlife Award, as was his Broadway at Birdland concert series. His CD, "The Swing Set" was released on January 11, 2011. Billy Stritchis one of the premier singer-pianists on the New York and national jazz and cabaret scene. His most recent cabaret act "Billy Stritch sings the Mel Torme Songbook" earned rave reviews from theNew York music critics. Stritch has appeared in cabaret venues across the nation as well as concert performances at the London Palladium, NHK Hall in Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro's Municipal Auditorium. In New York, he has performed at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall and completed 688 performances as Oscar the rehearsal pianist in the 2001 Broadway revival of 42nd Street, which starred Christine Ebersole. It was in this production that Billy and Christine initially met, laying the groundwork for a happy and mutually rewarding musical collaboration. Their CD release "In Your Dreams" is available on Ghostlight Records. Billy is also a songwriter and arranger, and his composition "Does He Love You" was recorded by Reba McEntire and Linda Davis. The single reached the number one spot on the Billboard Country chart, winning a Grammy Award and selling over five million copies along the way. He has arranged for many top performers and is a frequent collaborator with Liza Minnelli, having written the arrangements for Minnelli On Minnelli at the Palace Theater, Liza's Christmas at Town Hall, and was musical supervisor and pianist for the Tony Award-winning, Liza's At The Palace. Billy has played and sung on numerous television shows including "The Rosie O'Donnell Show," "Oprah," "The CBS Morning Show," "The Today Show" and "Inside The Actor's Studio". He has four solo CDs to his credit, including "Billy Stritch Sings Mel Torme," "The Waters of March,""Jazz Live," and "Billy Stritch." He is the winner of the Nashville Music City News Award, a BMI Song of the Year Award, and four awards from the Manhattan Association of Cabarets. There is a $30 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: JIM CARUSO'S "CAST PARTY" MONDAYS AT BIRDLANDFEATURED OPEN MIC EVENT

Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. It's the ultimate spot to mix and mingle with talented show folk and their fans. There is a $20 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: CHRIS BOTTI - 10TH ANNUAL HOLIDAY RESIDENCY

THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) is proud to present world renowned trumpeter Chris Botti's milestone, highly anticipated 10th Annual Holiday Residency - a three week engagement from Mondays through Sundays, December 15th, 2014 through Sunday, January 4th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm (including Christmas and New Year's Eve). Botti has called the club his home every December since 2005. Over the years the residency Chris has featured special impromptu musical guests, such as Sting and John Mayer (2011). Celebrities from all walks of the entertainment business have attended Botti's Blue Note performances, ranging from Mary J Blige to Paul Haggis. Since the release of his 2004 critically acclaimed CD "When I Fall In Love," Chris Botti has become the largest-selling American instrumental artist. His success has crossed over to audiences usually reserved for pop muisc and his ongoing association with PBS has led to four #1 jazz albums, as well as multiple Gold, Platinum and Grammy Awards. Most recently, his latest album Impressions won the GRAMMY for Best Pop Instrumental Album at the 2013 55th GRAMMY Awards. NYC: VARIATIONS ON THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK: STANDARDS AND STRIDE WITH DICK HYMAN

For two nights at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER(33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595), Monday & Tuesday, December 22nd & 23rd, legendary pianist Dick Hyman will treat audiences to intimate solo performances, featuring stride variations on standards by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Stephen Sondheim, Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, James P. Johnson, Thelonious Monk, and Jelly Roll Morton, with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Hyman's career includes a nearly encyclopedic output of over 100 albums under his name, ranging from original piano and orchestral works, to interpretations of classic American music, ragtime, and variants of stride piano. The 87-year-old pianist is rumored to never miss a note, and while that in no way defines his art, the rumor's mere existence in the context of such demanding music speaks volumes of his technical mastery. This is a chance to see America's greatest music performed at the highest level by a living legend. Call for cover/minimum information.
