NYC: HOW TO SURVIVE A BENEFIT WITH LEE RAINES

Lee Raines will headline HOW TO SURVIVE A BENEFIT, the show to benefits Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids atTHE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Friday, March 21st at 7:00 pm. HOW TO SURVIVE A BENEFIT is fifth in a series of zany, unconventional cabaret performances benefitting BC/EFA. The show also celebrates Lee's 25 years of living, loving, laughing and lounging successfully in the face of AIDS. The show will feature performances by Broadway luminaries and broken down chorus boys in a madcap jamboree. Highlights include "I Can't Do It Alone" from Chicago, selections from "My Heart Event," and an over-staged, over-produced, and over-the-top version of Cher's "Dark Lady," arguably the world's most perfect pop song. Guest performers include Gary Alaimo, Tim Pinckney, Mason Roberts, John Salvatore, Tom Titone, Jeffrey Griglak and Kevin Winkler. Dallas DuBois and her merry band of drag stars put a bawdy twist on some of your favorite pop culture icons in a series of cult hit pop culture revues whicj run on alternate Fridays at 10:00 pm at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909). The group presents the Magic Kindom themed DISTORTED DIZNEE, the Great White Way tribute DISTORTED BROADWAY and the new Silver Screen inspired DISTORTED HOLLYWOOD. This trio of Las Vegas-style drag extravaganzas feature drag stars Holly Dae, Bootsie LeFaris, Pixie Aventura, Brenda Dharling, Dallas DuBois and more. Growing up obsessed with the theatre can be a blessing and a curse. Join Steven Carl McCasland on a one-night-only romp through his years as an adolescent show queen. NYC: MARIA GUIDA SWINGS THE STANDARDS

Maria Guida Swings the Standards will be presented atTHE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Friday, March 21st at 7:00 pm. A very appealing singer with a warm voice and the ability to express the hidden beauty found in superior lyrics, Maria Guida recently recorded her debut CD, Soul Eyes. Throughout this impressive and highly enjoyable set, the beauty of Maria's voice is equaled by her understanding of the words and the creative spirit of her musicians. In fact, there was such an immediate communication between all of the participants that Soul Eyes was recorded in its entirety in one day. While most of the standards on Soul Eyes are familiar, these versions are unique. Maria Guida grew up on Long Island. As a child, she heard her parents' opera, pop, and musical theater records and her mother singing American popular songs around the house. Growing up, Maria played violin for eleven years with a string quartet and all-state orchestra and sang solos in a chorus. The turning point of her professional life occurred when she saw pianist Bill Evans play live. Very important in Maria's career were the lessons that she received from singers Jay Clayton, Sheila Jordan, and Janet Lawson. Over the years, Maria has sung in many clubs with such top musicians as pianists Bruce Barth, Kenny Werner, and Pete Malinverni; bassists Essiet Essiet, Cameron Brown and Ed Schuller; drummers Ron Vincent and Tom Rainey - as well as the musicians featured on Soul Eyes. She has also performed on stage with acclaimed singers, including Linda Ronstadt and Maureen McGovern. Therer is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: THE JOSE SANTIAGO EXPERIENCE

New York City native singer/songwriter Jose Santiago presents The Jose Santiago Experience at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Friday, March 21st at 11:00 pm. Santiago has been on the underground music scene since 2004 and has worked hard every step of the way. His creative mind never rests and he is constantly interrupting daily tasks and conversations to jot down any catchy hooks or meaningful perspectives that come to mind. He has toured with bands such as LMFAO and Jamie Drastik and has appeared in several showcases across the nation; one of them being ATL's own "Make It or Break It Tour" from which he came home victorious. A producer, songwriter, and performer, Jose does it all. He's written with Jamie Drastik, Stella Santana, ATM, Flo-Rida, Tony Sunshine, Prince Fev, and the late Heavy D. When he's not writing for other artists, he's constantly creating his own sounds like crowd favorites "Spotlight" and "Borrow That Body," both of which can be found on YouTube. Most recently, his newest single, "Let It Go," a pop record with a funk feel, is on it's way to becoming a club anthem. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: JAMES JACKSON, JR. "BLACK TO THE GARDEN"

James Jackson, Jr. brings his show "Black To The Garden" to CUTTING ROOM (44 East 32nd Street, NYC - 212-691-1900) on Friday, March 21st at 8:00 pm. This acclaimed vocalist and story-teller sings the tale of what built the stage persona who has performed in some of the coolest venues in New York City and beyond. It's not your ordinary night of soul. In his new inter-active solo show, James takes a walk down Memory Lane to musically show why the darker side of Broadway just wasn't for him. With a band lead by the multi-talented Elliot Roth, James has a night of musical truth-telling planned that will definitely bring you all the way Black To The Garden. There is a $20 cover.

NYC: KATIE GOODMAN AT STAGE 72

Comedian and on-line celebrity Katie Goodman will perform at STAGE 72 (158 West 72nd Street, NYC - 212-362-2590) on Friday, March 21st at 7:00 pm. Katie captivates her audience with her unique style of raw humor and gutsy original musical satire. An internationally touring musical comedian, Goodman is known for providing an audience with an act that is political, personal, and wildly entertaining. Katie holds nothing back on stage. Her charming-yet-challenging style and material appeal to both men and women and you can take a sneak peak at her hijinx on YouTube, particularly with the hit, "I Didn't F*ck It Up," which is sweeping the nation. Following their smash, sold out show in January, KT Sullivan & Mark Nadler make their triumphant return to 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Friday, March 21st at 8:00 pm. KT Sullivan and Mark Nadler, two of cabaret's most lauded artists, invite one and all to A Swell Party - RSVP Cole Porter, celebrating the timeless words and music of the supreme musical sophisticate of the 20th century whose witty, naughty and romantic songs continue to enthrall audiences today as they did in the Jazz Age. Among the selections are It's De-lovely, I've Got You Under My Skin, Let's Do It, In The Still of the Night, Night and Day & Begin the Beguine. NYC: 54 BELOW PRESENTS THE SONGS OF GABY ALTER

The Songs Of Gaby Alter will be presented at 54 BELOW(254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Friday, March 21st at 11:0 pm. Featuring performances from Alex Brightman (Wicked, Big Fish), Jason SweetTooth Williams (Bloodsong of Love, The Disappearing Man), Amber Gray (Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812) additionally Lauren Blackman, Alex Brightman, Haven Burton, Amber Gray, Jason Sweet Tooth Williams, Todd Almond, Molly Ranson, and Katie Thompson. Gaby Alter makes his 54 Below debut fresh from the Second Stage production of his musical Nobody Loves You, where it was both a New York Times and Time Out NY Critics' Pick, and was dubbed "The Best Musicval of 2012" by The Wall Street Journal. A songsmith with a pop/folk sensibility and a penchant for dramatic storytelling, Gaby will be premiering a collection of new songs, along with numbers from Nobody Loves You, with a group of favorite Broadway and off-Broadway actors. His music will make you laugh, giggle, possibly want to cry (or at least get kind of misty-eyed), and remain stuck in your head for several months after. Gaby is a Jonathan Larson Grant recipient and winner of both the San Diego and San Francisco Theater Critics' Circle Awards, the NYC Fringe Songwriting Award and an ASCAP Plus Award. His musicals include Band Geeks (Goodspeed Musicals, Human Race Theater), 29 (NYU/Steinhardt), and contributions to the revue Stars of David (Daryl Roth Productions), alongside such writers as Jeanine Tesori, Alan & Marilyn Bergman and Maltby & Shire. He and collaborator Itamar Moses wrote the song "The Frigate That Flies" for the upcoming Disney film Tinkerbell and The Pirate Fairy starring Christina Hendricks. NYC: "NOW THIS" WITH GARY PEACOCK, MARC COPLAND & JOEY BARON

"Now This" with Gary Peacock, Marc Copland and Joey Baron, will be presented at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Tuesday through Saturday,March 18th through 22nd with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. Over the span of five decades, Gary Peacock has established himself as one of the most versatile and talented bass players in jazz. One of his earliest influences was avant-garde saxophonist Albert Ayler, with whom Peacock performed and recorded in the 1960s. His music has also been greatly affected by his studies of Eastern music and philosophy. Since the 1980s, Peacock has been adding contemporary twists to old standards with pianist Keith Jarrett's trio including drummer Jack DeJohnette. Peacock's current group is a leaderless, cooperative and exploratory trio. "Pianist Marc Copland was early considered an heir to Bill Evans but has gone on to redefine jazz to the cutting edge. Rounding out the trio, drummer Joey Baron combines technical acuity with a deep sense of groove. Best known for his work with Bill Frisell, Stan Getz, John Zorn and guitarists John Scofield, John Abercrombie and Jim Hall, Joey has also performed with musicians outside of jazz including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, David Bowie, Tony Bennett, Laurie Anderson and Al Jarreau. There is a $40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: OFFICIAL U.S. PREMIERE - VOLCAN AT THER BLUE NOTE

Volcan, an all-star group featuring the prodigious talents of Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Jose Armando Gola, Horacio 'El Negro' Hernandez and Giovanni Hidalgo will perform at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Tuesday through Sunday, March 18th through 23rd with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. Volcan is the product of years of friendship, respect and a diverse and rich musical heritage. With over 150 albums between them as leaders and sidemen, these highly revered musicians have joined forces to our delight. With eight Grammy nominations under his belt, Gonzalo Rubalcaba has undoubtedly proven himself as established force in the modern jazz world. In whatever idiom he works, Rubalcaba's future musical creations will be melodious, rhythmic and exciting. Havana native Jose Armando Gola has played bass since the age of thirteen. He attended the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory in Cuba. He plays both upright and electric bass in various settings and has toured internationally, having played at most of the important jazz festivals of the world. Only in his mid-20s, he has worked with Gonzalo Rubalcaba for the past seven years. Horacio 'El Negro' Hernandez is a gifted musician who represents a new generation of great players following in the footsteps of countrymen Arturo Sandoval, Paquito D'Rivera, Ignacio Berroa and others. Hernandez plays on the cutting edge of today's music with technical prowess and versatility. His drumming also reflects a proud musical heritage rooted in folklore tradition. Giovanni Hidalgo was raised in a household surrounded by drums, bongos, congas and timbales. Hidalgo auditioned and was hired by the Batacumbele Band in 1980. In 1981, he traveled with the band to Cuba where he met a musician by the name of Jos• Luis Quintana "Changuito". Together they were able to create a unique style of rhythm and ushered in a new musical era in Latin music. There is a $20-$35 cover.

NYC: NEWISH JEWISH MUSIC FESTIVAL: ANAT FORT'S EXPANSION

For her Dizzy's debut, Tel Aviv-based jazz pianist Anat Fort will present a program that combines original music with jazz arrangements of the music of Israeli rock star Shalom Hanoch at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595 - )on Friday, March 21st with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. She is joined by Gary Wang, bass; Ben Perowsky, drums; and special guest Chris Cheek, saxophone. Fort has chosen to focus on the Israeli angle as it relates to her personal exploration of the contemporary Jewish experience. An esteemed improviser and the winner of multiple composition grants, Fort has a distinct and evolving take on jazz that we can't wait to share with our audiences. The show is part of the first-ever Newish Jewish Music Festival, a city-wide festival celebrating contemporary Jewish and Israeli culture and music. There is a $40 cover.
