CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: LINN LORKIN RETURNS TO NEW YORK WITH HER JAZZ MUSICAL "HEY, PIANO BAR LADY!"
Direct from her recent performance in a cabaret overlooking the South Pacific Ocean and the sub-tropical fern-clad slopes of Titirangi, Linn Lorkin is returning to New York cabaret! Now she's back with a new show: HEY, PIANO BAR LADY! It will play at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Sunday, December 1st at 3:00 pm; and Saturday, December 7th at 7.00 pm. She's from Down Under - New Zealand to be exact. She's got a down coat, and even wrote a song about it. She bought it during her first freezing winter in Manhattan, when she arrived with little except her musical passion, optimism and determination to work in New York. That was in the late 1970's. She spent eight years in New York. "I had my songs, I had a green card, I had a husband and I was playing swanky piano bar clubs. The late Blossom Dearie used to come and hear me on Madison Avenue." And Linn was exotic, coming from New Zealand. "Nobody knew where that was!" This cool Kiwi lady has a reputation of being charismatic and upbeat and her original songs and anecdotes evoke a golden bygone New York, 1977-1985. Linn has previously appeared at Don't Tell Mama in 2010, and at The Triad in 2011. HEY, PIANO BAR LADY! is directed by Collette Black and features Nori Naraoka on upright bass. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
