L.A. CABARET: MON DAVID MAKES GARDENIA DEBUT TONIGHT

L.A. CABARET: MON DAVID MAKES GARDENIA DEBUT TONIGHT

United States-based Filipino jazz drummer and singer Mon David makes his Gardenia debut on Friday, June 28th at 9:00 pm at THE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444). Winner of the 2006 London International Jazz Competition, Mr. David's spectacular vocal prowess has been recognized jazz critics and fans alike. David started singing at an early age. He often performed in school programs, drawing influences from Filipino folk songs, the Beatles, Motown, and other pop music of his time. He started playing drums and guitar at 15, singing pop songs and tunes from musicals. He eventually took up music at the University of the Philippines, majoring in classical voice while also taking arranging and composition courses. David formed a vocal quartet called Fourplay which covered most of the Manhattan Transfer songs. After graduating, he became a session musician, playing drums and serving as vocal coach to many Filipino singing groups including the APO Hiking Society. He also did commercial jingles and acting. He formed the group Jazz Fiesta, and for five years was also a member of the music and comedy group Ang Fourgettables. He recorded four jazz albums: 'Salamat sa Mga Alaala', 'Soulitute', 'Abe Mu Ku', and 'Life and Times'. Call for cover/minimum information.
