NYC: DJANGO REINHARDT NY FESTIVAL: YOUNG LIONS OF GYPSY JAZZ, PLUS THE TOP WOMEN IN JAZZ

NYC: DJANGO REINHARDT NY FESTIVAL: YOUNG LIONS OF GYPSY JAZZ, PLUS THE TOP WOMEN IN JAZZ

The Django Reinhardt NY Festival: Young Lions of Gypsy Jazz, Plus the Top Women in Jazz will be presented at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080 - ) Tuesday through Sunday, June 19th through 24th with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. "Top Women in Jazz" will join each night: Anat Cohen (6/19/& 6/20), Grace Kelly (6/21 & 6/22) & Cyrille Aimee (6/23 & 6/24). The Django Reinhardt NY Festival, now celebrating its 12th year at Birdland, carries on the legacy of legendary gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt, but with some new songs and new interpretations keeping it fresh, exciting, cutting-edge ... but true to the hot jazz, romantic style which has exploded across the US. Returning this year is Samson Schmitt, son of legendary 'gypsy' French guitar legend Dorado Schmitt, who heads an All-Star band of top musicians from France and the US. Having grown up on the Birdland stage, he is now out on his own and a star in Europe. He will be joined by Ludovic Beier from Paris, a brilliant swinging accordionist and accordina player, Doudou Cuillerier on rhythm guitar and scat singing and French virtuoso violinist Pierre Blanchard. Guitarist Evan Perr of "The Hot Club of Detroit," whose CD "Junction" will be released in July on MackAvenue Records, will be a special guest. Brian Torff, who was Stephane Grapelli's top bassist, holds it all together and serves as host of the week-long event. Hot, Hot Jazz at its best - swinging, romantic, virtuosic - and great fun! Produced by Pat Philips and Ettore Stratta. There is a $40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
