SOME OF THE GREAT CABARET SHOWS HAPPENING TONIGHT! #CABARETMONTH

NYC: SHEPLEY METCALF RETURNS WITH "SOMETHING IRRESISTIBLE"
A MARCH IS CABARET MONTH EVENT

The Boston-based singer Shepley Metcalf who, last year, was the first American to record and perform a new trove of songs by the lyricist Fran Landesman, is bringing back her critically acclaimed Landesman tribute to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) for an exclusive four-show engagement in March. "Something Irresistible," featuring songs by Landesman and the British jazz composer Simon Wallace, performs Wednesday March 2nd at 7:00 pm; Saturday March 5th at 9:30 pm; Saturday March 19th at 7:30 pm, and Sunday March 20th at 4:00 pm. She is backed by her music director and arranger Ron Roy on piano, Chris Rathbun on bass and Gene Roma on drums. The show includes 15 new songs from the mercurial tunesmith who withdrew to London in the mid-60's represent a stunning expansion of her discography, which, in recent decades has had very few additions. Landesman is best known for her widely admired standards "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most," and "The Ballad of the Sad Young Men." There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: JUDY AND LIZA TOGETHER AGAIN AT MAMA'S IN 2011

Cabaret favorites Tommy Femia and Rick Skye are teaming up for more evenings of "Just POW!" in "Judy and Liza Together Again" at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Saturdays, March 4rd & 26th, both shows at 8:30 pm. These MAC Award winning performers (Best Impersonation) will pull out all the stops, singing classic solo's, parodies, duets and just plain whooping and hollering by the greatest mother/daughter team in show biz history. David Maiocco as Mort Lindsay will musical direct. "Judy and Liza Together Again" recently premiered in Ft Lauderdale to great acclaim and marked the first pairing of these two remarkable talents. There is a $20 cover charge and a 2 drink minimum.

Singer/songwriter Lane Gardner spins a vibrant mix of experience and artistry into a rich, authentic voice both deeply personal and archetypal all at once at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Saturday, March 5th at 7:00 pm. She weaves a musical fusion from her diverse background as a session singer, her classical training and early career as a professional opera singer, her passion for world music and native drumming, and fascination with folklore and the bardic traditions that reflect our shared experiences through story and song. Lane brings the whole of herself to the table, both lyrically and musically, writing songs that are equally simple and complex; rich in contradiction, celebrating the many facets of life- sometimes unsavory, often breathtaking - yet always fully human and alive. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: URBAN STAGES TO PRESENT 'MUSICAL LEGENDS'

URBAN STAGES (259 West 30th Street, NYC - 212 421-1380) is proud to present MUSICAL LEGENDS, a series of four unique, self-contained theatrical 70 minute tributes, each celebrating the music and life of one of the following legends: Pearl Bailey, Kaye Ballard, Marlene Dietrich, and Nat 'King' Cole as performed by Roz White, Gretchen Reinhagen, Cleve Douglass and Janice Hall from February 24th through March 13th. On Saturday, March 5th, at 7:00 pm: Nat 'King' Cole: Unforgettable Smooth Grooves, starring Cleve Douglass, directed by Lee Summers with musical direction by Tony Romano on guitar and featuring Phil Palombi on bass, and Matt Kane on percussion.
