NYC: STEVE KUHN, RON CARTER & JOEY BARON AT BIRDLAND THROUGH SATURDAY

NYC: STEVE KUHN, RON CARTER & JOEY BARON AT BIRDLAND

Three major forces in jazz come together for a week-only engagement atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Tuesday through Saturday, April 27th through May 1st, with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. After making his mark as a sideman with John Coltrane, Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Art Farmer, and others, pianist Steve Kuhn grew beyond the powerful influence of Bill Evans into a unique stylist with incredible technique and sense of dynamics and lyricism. Ron Carter is among the most original, prolific and influential bassists in jazz. With more than 2,000 albums to his credit, Ron has performed and recorded with many of music's greats including Bill Evans, B.B. King, Dexter Gordon and many more, beginning his career in the 1960s with Jaki Byard and Eric Dolphy, Cannonball Adderley and a five year stint in the Miles Davis' Quintet. Rounding out the trio is avant-garde drummer Joey Baron, best known for his work with Bill Frisell, Stan Getz, and John Zorn. Combining technical acuity with a deep sense of groove, Joey has also performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, David Bowie, Tony Bennett, Carmen McRae, Laurie Anderson, John Scofield, Al Jarreau, Jim Hall, Eric Vloeimans, Dizzy Gillespie, Art Pepper, John Abercrombie and Tim Berne. There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
