SF: VALERIE SIMPSON IN "A TRIBUTE TO NICK ASHFORD" (FINAL SHOW TONIGHT)
Valerie Simpson will present "A Tribute to Nick Ashford" at RRAZZ ROOM at THE HOTEL NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-394-1189) on Tuesday through Friday, May 8th through 11th at 8:00 pm; Saturday, May 12th at 7:00 & 9:30 pm; and Sunday, May 13th at 7:00 pm. Valerie Simpson wrote some of the greatest love songs of a generation with her husband and writing partner, Nick Ashford. But when he died of throat cancer in August, 2011, at the age of 70, Simpson was cast adrift. After spending more than four decades together, during which time they turned out Motown classics like "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing", "Solid" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" (as well as a series of their own hits as the duo Ashford and Simpson), she didn't know if she would ever get back onstage. Now she is back with her new show, a loving musical tribute to Mr. Nick Ashford. Valerie will perform all their greatest hits in this moving once in a lifetime concert experience. The RRazz Room has been the bay area "home" of Nick & Val since it's inception, and is proud to be the venue that Ms. Simpson has personally chosen to debut her new show. There is a $45-$50-$55 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

The show chronicles stage actress Cynthia Silver's naïve foray into the unreal world of Reality TV, as well as her struggles in navigating the mercenary New York bridal industry. In 2002, Silver allowed a British camera crew to film the preparations for her lavish wedding for what she was told would be a documentary series called "Manhattan Brides." Silver was shocked to discover that the footage had been sold to FOX and WE and turned into a reality TV show tellingly called "Bridezillas." Suddenly an unwitting traveler in a demoralizing landscape, Silver found herself mocked on TV and pilloried in the press and chat rooms, her wedding ridiculed in re-runs and countless promos. NYC: SOUVENIR: A FANTASIA ON THE LIFE OF FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS
Souvenir: A Fantasia on the Life of Florence Foster Jenkins, will be presented at ARTS AT THE PARK(1010 Park Avenue, NYC - 212-288-3246) a component of the Park Avenue Christian Church (known as "The Park") on Saturday, May 12th at 2:00 & 8:00 pm. Directed by Steven Minning, Souvenir features Georga Osborne and Jonas Cohen. For more than half a century, the name Florence Foster Jenkins produced explosions of derisive laughter. Not unreasonably so, as this wealthy society eccentric suffered under the delusion that she was a great coloratura soprano when she was, in fact, incapable of producing two consecutive notes in tune. As news of her terrible singing spread, so did her celebrity. Her growing mob of fans packed her recitals, stuffing handkerchiefs in their mouths to stifle their laughter - which Mrs. Jenkins blissfully mistook for cheers. The climax of her career was a single concert at Carnegie Hall in 1944 that sold out in two hours. SOUVENIR, by turns hilarious and poignant, tells her story through the eyes of Jenkins's accompanist, Cosme McMoon. A talented musician, he first regards her with contempt, then reluctant admiration, then friendship and affection - the two being a musical odd couple for the ages. Stephen Foster returns to the stage after a long absence at Bette Davis in "BitchSlap!" (A comedy about Bette Davis/Joan Crawford and Hedda Hopper) in the West Coast premiere of the show at MACHA THEATRE/FILMS(1107 North Kings Road, West Hollywood, CA - 323-314-6332). The show is written by Darrin Hagin and Produced and Directed by Odalys Nanin. Others in the cast are Michael Taylor Gray, Therese Mc Laughlin, Aly Trasher and Jeanne Carr. NYC: CAROLE J. BUFFORD IN "SPEAK EASY" AT THE MET
Carole J. Bufford sings about the "dry" years in "Speak Easy," her new Prohibition-era show running at the THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 ) with performances on Thursday, May 10th at 9:30 pm; Saturday, May 19th at 4:00 pm; and Thursday May 24th at 9:30 pm. She will be backed by Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks. Music direction is by Larry Lees. "Broadway Sessions" is an evening of musical performances, games, comedy and open mic featuring new Broadway guests each week. The show takes place every Thursday evenings at 10:30 pm at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909). It is hosted by Ben Cameron (Wicked, Aida, Footloose) and features composer/musical director Will Van Dyke on piano. Get up close and personal with Broadway's brightest as the stars bare their souls, interact with the crowd and celebrate all things BROADWAY. Open Mic party goes til 12:00 am featuring. There is a $5 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.

L.A.: FRANCESCA AMARI'S GILDA RADNER TRIBUTE AT THE GARDENIA
On Thursday, May 10th at 9:00 pm, cabaret vocalist Francesca Amari will reprise her tribute show, "YOU MAKE ME LAUGH: A Love Song to Gilda Radner" at THE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444). Amari debuted the show at last year's Gilda's LaughFest in Grand Rapids, MI, a 10-day festival of laughter, which included such notables as Bill Cosby, Betty White, Margaret Cho and more, to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Gilda's Club West Michigan. She developed the show with the input of nationally-renowned cabaret star Andrea Marcovicci, who served as her creative consultant. The show highlights moments of Gilda's fascinating life, including her rise to stardom, her marriage to Gene Wilder and her struggle with cancer. Much of the material comes from Gilda's autobiography, "It's Always Something". Shelly Markham serves as Music Director. The show features music from the American Popular Songbook, pop music, Broadway and the cabaret world, and includes such gems as "Pure Imagination," Markham's "You Make Me Laugh," "My Pa" and "Honey (Touch Me With My Clothes On." A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Pennies For Penny, a support organization founded to raise money for 3-year-old Penny Buttrick, who is fighting Neuroblastoma (http://www.pennies4penny.org/ ). There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum (or dinner).

Jack Kleinsinger's Highlights In Jazz, New York's longest running jazz concert series presents "We Call it Jazz" featuring Christian McBride Big Band, Michael Wolff Trio, and Baby Jane Dexter, will be presented on Thursday, May 10th at 8:00 pm at THE TRIBECA PERFORMING ARTS CENTER (199 Chambers Street, NYC - 212-220-1460). This will be the Christian McBride Big Band 's only NYC appearance! In a stellar career that continues to showcase his remarkable talents as a consummate musician, bassist Christian McBride reaches another milestone with the release of The Good Feeling, his first big band recording as a leader and newest release for Mack Avenue Records. Michael Wolff is a jazz pianist, composer, producer, actor, and educator. He was honored as a Steinway Artist and obtained a BMI Cable Award. Special Guest Baby Jane Dexter received the New York Nightlife Award for vocalist of the year twice, in both 2010 and 2009, plus 6 MAC Awards including 2010 Major Artist of the year and 5 other best Vocalist MAC Awards. JULES, a three person drama, with music, about the dangers of legislating "morality laws", and the lives this kind of ignorance ruins, will be presented atTHE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Thursday, May 10th at 9:30 pm; Monday, May 14th at 7:00 pm; Thursday, May 17th at 9:30 pm; and Monday, May 21st at 7:00 pm. The show stars Broadway's David Sabella-Mills, Cameron Hansel, and Art Brown. The year is 1941. We are in a dressing room at Billy Rose's club in Manhattan , during the final performance of Broadway's most famous vaudeville and film star of the time: female impersonator, Julian Eltinge. JULES is produced by Third Eye Theatre Company, written by Michael Levesque, with music by Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, Julian Eltinge, and more, directed by Andrew Glant-Linden, musically directed and arranged by Tim Di Pasqua, costumes and wigs by Kyle Skillin, stage management by Sierra Ryan.
