NYC: KAREN OBERLIN IN BAD LOVE: THE RANDY NEWMAN SONGBOOK

Multi-award winning Karen Oberlin returns to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) with one more performance of her show 'BAD LOVE: The Randy Newman Songbook' on Wednesday, January 4th at 7:00 pm. Randy Newman, as a songwriter, is an impassioned social realist in the same vein as (or school of) Yip Harburg mixed with Lorenz Hart: Someone who recognizes the power of songs, with lyrics that can remind us of injustice, the sting of loss and how unkind people can be. And yet, in that salad of cruelty, Newman tosses large amounts of love, joy and delicious humor. Karen Oberlin, joined by her superb team of Tedd Firth as musical director and pianist and Steve Doyle on bass, explores the many facets of this heartbreaking and hilarious songbook. Karen Oberlin is thrilled to return to her cabaret home, the Metropolitan Room. She was the recipient of the Mabel Mercer Foundation's Donald F. Smith Award for Excellence in Cabaret. She has also received an honorary doctorate in music and the Nightlife Award for Jazz Vocalist of the Year along with a Bistro Award, and multiple MAC Awards. She has headlined such New York boites as 54 Below, the Cafe Carlyle, Kitano, Birdland and the Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel, along with major nightclubs and concert halls in New York, throughout the U.S. and Europe (including annual engagements at London's Crazy Coqs. She has four albums on the Miranda Music label with another on the way. There is a $24 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
