NYC: RICHARD MALAVET - VERY GOOD YEARS: THE INTIMATE SINATRA

Returning to Manhattan cabaret after a brief hiatus, Richard Malavet brings his brand new show, Very Good Years: The Intimate Sinatra to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Thursday & Friday, August 27th & 28th at 7:00 pm. Multi-Grammy nominee John di Martino will be musical director/arranger and pianist leading the band. This is the year of Frank Sinatra's centennial. He remains the iconic pop singer whom musical historians and critics' consider the definitive pop vocalist of the last 100 years. In a crowded field, he stands alone as the male singer by whom singers of the Great American Songbook are compared. Throughout his career, Sinatra considered himself a saloon singer. This special retrospective is a chronology of select recorded songs including "This Love Of Mine," and "I'm A Fool To Want You," (two songs he co-wrote), also "Night And Day" and his personal favorite, "Put Your Dreams Away." It also includes the many songs he recorded with his favorite arranger Nelson Riddle. The set will focus on the years 1939 through 1968. It will also feature lesser known gems such as "Once I Loved," "Say It (Over And Over Again") and "The Same Hello, The Same Goodbye," (written for Frank by Alan & Marilyn Bergman, but never recorded.) There will also be respectful nods to Antonio Carlos Jobim and Duke Ellington both of whom Sinatra collaborated with in the 1960s. Several arrangements are given a decided Latin twist. Richard Malavet has been acclaimed for his work as a singer of the classic American and Spanish songbooks. He has performed with his band in many Manhattan clubs. A native New Yorker, Mr. Malavet has brought his highly acclaimed Billy Eckstine tribute, "The Billy Eckstine Project: Songs in the Key of 'B," to venues across the country. There is a $22.50 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: I LEFT MY HEART AT THEATER CAMP

54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) presents I Left My Heart At Theater Camp on Thursday & Friday, August 27th & 28th at 11:30 pm as part of the club's Late Night Series. Ah, summer camp: that beloved American rite of passage, giving many kids the chance to get out of the house and explore, and their parents the chance to have a bit of peace and quiet. But within that mass exodus of little ones every June, there exists a unique breed of children. Children who choose to forgo bug juice for Throat Coat. Children who have, at some point, wondered, "... could I get a care package of prednisone?" Children who know that not even the most gruesome murders depicted in '80s slasher film Sleepaway Camp can compare to the horror of waking up slightly hoarse the day you are to give the performance of your life as a 15-year-old Mama Rose. Now with summer over and September fast approaching, a motley crew of survivors have gathered to relive the old days by recreating camp (in senses both literal and figurative - trust us) performances. Over two nights (Thursday, August 27th: those who graduated in 2007-2009; Friday, August 28th: the graduates of 2010-2012), will re-tackle the roles they most fondly remember - and bravely confront past psychological trauma in a few roles that, now that they are over 21, and drink to forget. Follies. The Wild Party. All-White Once On This Island. Should they have done these shows as children? Questionable. Did they do these shows as children? Yes. Performers on August 27th include: Samantha Massell (Hunchback of Notre Dame), Matt Meigs (Matilda), Justin Schuman (Nice Work If You Can Get It), Larry Owens (Fat Camp), Rachel Geisler (Spring Awakening), Natalie Walker, Giuliana Carullo, Lily LaGravenese, Abby Goldfarb, Ali Gordon, Jodi Bluestein, Max Hunter, Brian Muller and Julia Nathan. Guests on August 28 include: Nick Christopher (Whorl Inside A Loop, Motown), Katherine Doherty (Mary Poppins, A Little Night Music), Andrew Kotzen, Kathryn Foley, Bettina Bresnan, Mary Catherine Hughes, Ariella Serur, Emily Wexler, Emily Kassie, Nick Martinez, Eric Freeman, Amanda Hawkins, Zachary Durand, Gino Chaviano, Jordan Silver. Also featuring Brad Simmons on Keys. There is a $20-$50 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.

NYC: PROFESSOR CUNNINGHAM AND HIS OLD SCHOOL BAND / THE MARSH BROTHERS TRIO OPENS

Take a growling horn section, a grooving and soulful rhythm section, a woodwind/vocalist frontman, add the soul of a New Orleans party, and you've got Professor Cunningham and his Old School. This 7 piece piece band will perform at JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Friday, August 28th at 7:00 pm. The band performs the most swinging and grooving repertoire deeply steeped in the New Orleans tradition; from early jazz to early R&B - the likes of Sidney Bechet, Fats Waller, even Fats Domino! The group was formed 2 years ago by in-demand reedman and vocalist Adrian Cunningham, an Australian native based in NYC, and one of his home country's finest jazz exports. The ensemble consists of some of the most energetic and accomplished musicians on the New York circuit, and has been a regular hit in the NYC underground party and swing dance scene; performing at some of the city's finest speakeasy shows (Shanghai Mermaid, Gemini and Scorpio) and regularly performing to packed houses at some of the city's best swing venues (Cutting Room, Swing 46, The Back Room). And they are taking Europe by storm, having performed at Europe's biggest swing event - Snowball, in Stockholm! There is a $15 cover.

NYC: EL CARIBEFUNK / RYAN TENNIS AT JOE'S PUB

JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) welcomes El Caribefunk - an exotic fusion of Salsa, Funk, and Reggae, where undeniable rhythm and poetry express intense color and feeling and inspire "alegra", and Ryan Tennis, on Friday, August 28th at 8:30 pm. El Caribefunk, a band of Colombians, has built a fervent underground following with 2.5 years of nearly non-stop touring in South America. They've headlined festivals with acts like Bomba Estereo and Herencia de Timbiqui, played live on Colombian National Radio, and performed on numerous national television programs including TeleAntioquia and RadioUno, but can still be found playing casually in the plaza after a show or jamming with street musicians. Whether or not you planned to, El Caribefunk's rhythm and positive energy will have you on your feet and dancing from the first note. Listening to Ryan Tennis is like taking a road trip to a new place with an old friend. Songs range from soul-touching acoustic ballads to roots funk and soul to rollicking reggae covers, but under it all is a foundation of groove and warmth that keeps you moving forward. Tennis' sound has drawn comparisons to Paul Simon, Bill Withers and Ben Harper - surprising likenesses for an all-American college football player turned singer/songwriter. While his disarming lyrics and singable melodies display a rare sensitivity, the intensity of his live performances - solo or backed by the raucous Clubhouse Band - hint at his gridiron past. Shows swing as easily from pin-drop-silence-inducing acoustic ballads to deep-grooving funk jams and bumping roots reggae covers. Revealed in the varied whole is an artist devoted to honest songwriting and willing to follow his own expression to a place beyond easy categorization. There is a $15 cover.

CD AVAILABLE NOW - NYC: LYNN HENDERSON'S "IF WE ONLY HAVE LOVE" CD AVAILABLE - AS ADVERTISED IN CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE

Lynn Henderson's memories as a singer date back to grade school when she wore out a recording of "It's Magic" singing along with Doris Day. Throughout her life, singing has been her passion. From big band vocalist to saloon singer to Handel soloist to cabaret singer, it has all been a joy! The chapters of her life from single New Yorker to wife, mom, equestrienne, businesswoman, divorcee and world traveler all contribute to her selection of songs that speak to me. Life has given Lynn a finer appreciation of great songs and a deeper understanding of what the extraordinary musical poets are telling us. Welcome to Lynn's world!

Lynn's new CD, titled "If We Only Have Love", was released on September 15, 2014. Since enjoying these songs with her audiences and wonderful musicians over the last couple of years at the Metropolitan Room in New York City and all over CT., Lynn has been encouraged to share them with a larger audience.

VENUE PROMOTED EVENT IN NYC: RICHARD MALAVET - VERY GOOD YEARS: THE INTIMATE SINATRA - - AS ADVERTISED IN CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE BY THE METROPOLITAN ROOM

Why we do this: Research shows that time spent in nature makes people healthier, happier and more creative, and that communities flourish where green spaces thrive. But staying green requires green! City greens need constant attention, repair and upkeep. Music and Art for City Greens helps by producing free professional music and art events to build community awareness and increase donations to spaces which otherwise might go wanting.

Since 2008, when Broadway actress and award winning cabaret veteran Raissa Katona Bennett first brought the joy of live music to Tudor City, thousands of people have enjoyed these concerts under the trees and have come away with new appreciation for and dedication to the green spaces in their midst.

Music and Art for City Greens is a 501c3 non-profit, and all performers and support people generously donate their time and talent for these events. 100% of all donations given by attendees at this summer concert series are collected directly by the Tudor City Greens organization for the upkeep of these spaces.

The organization will continue to produce at Tudor City Greens, while actively promoting creative and inclusive uses of other public green spaces.

NYC: LYNN HENDERSON'S "IF WE ONLY HAVE LOVE" CD AVAILABLE

You can purchase the CD at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/lynnhenderson2

Helpusadopt.org's average grant is approximately $8,500 and since the organization's launch in 2007, Helpusadopt.org has helped to build 134 families by awarding over $1,000,000 in total adoption grants. For more information, please see their web site at http://www.Helpusadopt.org/ . There is a $25 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.
