NYC: ERIC COMSTOCK - TUESDAYS AT CAFE NOCTAMBULO AT PANGEA - FINAL SHOW JUNE 28th

Eric Comstock returns to his residency at New York's newest music venue, CAFE NOCTAMBULO AT PANGEA (178 Second Avenue, NYC - 212-995-0900) from 8:00 pm to midnight every Tuesday night through June 28th. An acknowledged master of the American Songbook, Comstock has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and virtually every important nightclub in New York and across the country. He is one of only a handful of singer/pianists who can command a room merely by sitting at the piano, singing and telling stories. In addition to his extensive knowledge of repertoire, Comstock has a seemingly unending supply of anecdotes about the songs, the writers, and the stars who sang them. His unique combination of musicianship, history and charisma creates an experience that is as entertaining as it is musically savvy, and his audiences feel they've been to a terrific party where the music and the stories have been equally great. Keri Kelsey is a woman with, to put it mildly, an eclectic background. Her life experiences are as diverse as traveling with the circus, riding a tiger bareback, assisting a juggler, working as an on-the-spot radio news reporter and a literary agent, signing for the deaf, and swinging 35 feet in the air from a float in the Rose Bowl Parade! (not easy for someone afraid of heights... she found, however, that fear is calmed somewhat when a paycheck is involved ... ) Keri draws inspiration from all these experiences for her personal and compelling performances. She counts among her musical inspirations Julie Wilson, Ann Hampton Callaway and Nancy Wilson. There is a $5 cover plus a 2-drink minimum or dinner.

Texas based Carolyn Lee Jones released her latest CD - In A Long White Room - on Friday, June 10th at THE KITCHEN CAFE (17370 Preston Rd #415 - 972-818-3400). Carolyn Lee Jones's influences and choices of genre are as broad as her vocal styling is rich. She makes standards sound new and the new sound standard. It is something of an audio calling card, the perfect representation of who she is and the musicians in her band. Her musical journey began as a child while growing up in Nebraska. During her formative years Carolyn sang in her school choirs and studied voice. Both of her parents were gifted musicians. After graduation, the lure of a bigger city drew her to Dallas, Texas where she pursued a successful 1st career in retailing for luxury stores. Carolyn traveled the world and continued to seek out music-related opportunities by producing and performing jazz shows while on the road. In 2008, she made the decision to pursue music full time as a jazz vocalist and band leader. With influences ranging from Julie London, Anita O'Day and Shirley Horn to Tony Bennett, Diana Krall and Laura Nyro, Carolyn Lee Jones is a melodic jazz-pop singer-stylist with a combination of rich and expressive vocals. A vibrant vocalist with a love of both jazz and modern music, Carolyn's eclectic repertoire includes beautiful renditions of familiar standards from the Great American Songbook, the evolution of vintage retro pop songs into the jazz context and new material. Carolyn performs with her ensembles at a variety of venues, festivals, and for corporate and private events. BROOKLYN, NYC: EXTENDED - DAN RUTH IN A LIFE BEHIND BARS - JUNE 27th

A Life Behind Bars, Dan Ruth's dark comic work of monologues and stories, fermented in over two decades of booze, bars and gentrification, has been extended at THE GUTTER BAR (200 North 14th Street, Brooklyn, NY - 718-387-3585). Final Performance is Monday, June 27th, at 8:00 pm. Written & performed by Dan Ruth the show is directed by Tanya Moberly. Based on his 20-plus years as a New York City actor-turned-bartender in Hell's Kitchen, Brooklyn and beyond, Ruth's 'A Life Behind Bar's sheds comedic light on the darker side of the world of the bar, club and restaurant industry. Here, a rapidly changing New York City gives way to Yelp, rigged health inspections and a place where selfie-sticks, man-buns and beard bars threaten to bulldoze any remnant of New York's fabulous griminess, authenticity and humanity. After 20 years in the bar industry, Ruth has returned to the stage, alive and better than ever with a dark, voyeuristic comedy spiral, full of truths and themes of loneliness, alcoholism, vampirism and self-enslavement. 'A Life Behind Bar's is an unapologetic look at what can happen when you reach for the stars but grab for the bottle instead. The Gutter Bar is Williamsburg Brooklyn's most authentic rock & roll venue/ bowling alley /bar/ cabaret! There is a $25 cover.

CHICAGO: MONDAY NIGHT LIVE AT PETTERINO'S WITH DENISE & BECKIE - JUNE 27th

Monday Night Live, an impromptu showcase in a modern supper club setting, is hosted by Denise McGowan Tracy and Beckie Menzie on Mondays from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at PETTERINO'S (150 North Dearborn, Chicago, IL - 312-422-0150). Since the first evening in September of 2007, more than 700 singers have graced the Petterino's stage. Many of these have been talented amateurs, and just as many have been special guests from local and national theatrical productions. Past seasons have brought perfomers from the Lyric Operia, Porchlight Music Theatre, and many more from known productions such as Jersey Boys, Wicked, Sweeney Todd, Grease, and Dirty Dancing. Now in their 9th season, Denise and Beckie are back every Monday (mostly). They will probably sing a few songs and maybe tell a few stories. SALEM, NY: THE SOUND OF MUSIC SOARS AT THE FORT - JUNE 24th- 26th

Director Tim Nelson and his adult acting troupe from THE ROSE CENTER THEATER in Westminster, California, return to The MAINSTAGE AT FORT SALEM THEATER (11 East Broadway, Salem, NY - 518-854-9200) for their annual summer outing the weekend of Friday through Sunday, June 24th through 26th with Rodgers & Hammerstein's classic musical, The Sound of Music. The Sound of Music plays Friday and Saturday, June 24th & 25th at 8:00 pm, and Sunday, June 26th, at 2:00 pm.Once a year the group fills the Salem stage with the most popular musicals in the literature, including past productions of Carousel, Man of La Mancha, Phantom, and The Secret Garden. The Sound of Music is based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. Set in Austria on the eve of the Anschluss in 1938, the musical tells the story of Maria, who takes a job as governess to a large family while she struggles with her decision to become a nun. She falls in love with the children, and eventually their widowed father, Captain von Trapp. He is ordered to accept a commission in the German navy, but he opposes the Nazis. He and Maria decide on a plan to flee Austria with the children. Many songs from the musical have become standards, such as "Edelweiss", "My Favorite Things", "Climb Ev'ry Mountain", "Do-Re-Mi", and the title song "The Sound of Music". The original Broadway production, starring Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel, opened on November 16, 1959. It won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, out of nine nominations. The show has enjoyed numerous productions and revivals since then. It was adapted as a 1965 film musical starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, which won five Academy Awards. The Sound of Music was the last musical written by Rodgers and Hammerstein; Oscar Hammerstein died of cancer nine months after the Broadway premiere. In addition to the California actors, Nelson, who also works at Albany's Park Playhouse, has assembled a cast of some of the region's most accomplished young actors, including Ariana Papaleo and George Franklin. Discounted tickets are available for seniors and young people twelve and under. More information is available on the theater's website ( http://www.fortsalemtheater.com ) or by calling the theater at 518-854-9200.
