LOS ANGELES, CAL: OPEN MIC AND MORE WITH KERI KELSEY

Keri Kelsey hosts this long-running open mic event Tuesday nights at 9:00 pm (dinner served at 8:00 pm) at THE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444). Keri Kelsey is a woman with, to put it mildly, an eclectic background. Her life experiences are as diverse as traveling with the circus, riding a tiger bareback, assisting a juggler, working as an on-the-spot radio news reporter and a literary agent, signing for the deaf, and swinging 35 feet in the air from a float in the Rose Bowl Parade! (not easy for someone afraid of heights... she found, however, that fear is calmed somewhat when a paycheck is involved ... ) Keri draws inspiration from all these experiences for her personal and compelling performances. She counts among her musical inspirations Julie Wilson, Ann Hampton Callaway and Nancy Wilson. There is a $5 cover plus a 2-drink minimum or dinner.

Texas based Carolyn Lee Jones released her latest CD - In A Long White Room - on Friday, June 10th at THE KITCHEN CAFE (17370 Preston Rd #415 - 972-818-3400). Carolyn Lee Jones's influences and choices of genre are as broad as her vocal styling is rich. She makes standards sound new and the new sound standard. It is something of an audio calling card, the perfect representation of who she is and the musicians in her band. Her musical journey began as a child while growing up in Nebraska. During her formative years Carolyn sang in her school choirs and studied voice. Both of her parents were gifted musicians. After graduation, the lure of a bigger city drew her to Dallas, Texas where she pursued a successful 1st career in retailing for luxury stores. Carolyn traveled the world and continued to seek out music-related opportunities by producing and performing jazz shows while on the road. In 2008, she made the decision to pursue music full time as a jazz vocalist and band leader. With influences ranging from Julie London, Anita O'Day and Shirley Horn to Tony Bennett, Diana Krall and Laura Nyro, Carolyn Lee Jones is a melodic jazz-pop singer-stylist with a combination of rich and expressive vocals. BROOKLYN, NYC: EXTENDED - DAN RUTH IN A LIFE BEHIND BARS - JUNE 13th & 27th

A Life Behind Bars, Dan Ruth's dark comic work of monologues and stories, fermented in over two decades of booze, bars and gentrification, has been extended at THE GUTTER BAR (200 North 14th Street, Brooklyn, NY - 718-387-3585). Added dates are Mondays, June 13th & 27th, at 8:00 pm. Written & performed by Dan Ruth the show is directed by Tanya Moberly. Based on his 20-plus years as a New York City actor-turned-bartender in Hell's Kitchen, Brooklyn and beyond, Ruth's 'A Life Behind Bar's sheds comedic light on the darker side of the world of the bar, club and restaurant industry. Here, a rapidly changing New York City gives way to Yelp, rigged health inspections and a place where selfie-sticks, man-buns and beard bars threaten to bulldoze any remnant of New York's fabulous griminess, authenticity and humanity. After 20 years in the bar industry, Ruth has returned to the stage, alive and better than ever with a dark, voyeuristic comedy spiral, full of truths and themes of loneliness, alcoholism, vampirism and self-enslavement. 'A Life Behind Bar's is an unapologetic look at what can happen when you reach for the stars but grab for the bottle instead. The Gutter Bar is Williamsburg Brooklyn's most authentic rock & roll venue/ bowling alley /bar/ cabaret! There is a $25 cover.

DALLAS, TX: CAROLYN LEE JONES RELEASES NEW CD AT THE KITCHEN CAFE!

A vibrant vocalist with a love of both jazz and modern music, Carolyn's eclectic repertoire includes beautiful renditions of familiar standards from the Great American Songbook, the evolution of vintage retro pop songs into the jazz context and new material. Carolyn performs with her ensembles at a variety of venues, festivals, and for corporate and private events. NYC: ELAINE BRIER IN PUT YOUR FUNNY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS

Elaine Brier brings her new show 'Put Your Funny Where Your Mouth Is' to THE CUTTING ROOM (44 East 32nd Street, NYC - 212-691-1900) on Saturday, June 18th at 7:30 pm. Elaine Brier is a singer/ comic who has been entertaining people with inappropriate material for longer than she cares to remember. A native New Yorker from the Bronx, she attended the High School of Music and Art to study vocal music and did not dance on a table even once. She started her performing career in the 90's, singing in local New York City piano bars and practicing the fine art of shtick. Elaine has done many other things over the years such as voice overs, commercials, television, corporate gigs, birthing babies, etc., but performing for a live audience is still where her passion lies. She won the Backstage Bistro Award in 2003 for her one woman show, "Jirque du Soleil," and was given the MAC Award for "Best Piano Bar Performer" in 2015. She has been a staple at Don't Tell Mama Piano Bar for over 20 years and is very happy to have it as her second home. Elaine has three kids and hopes to write some songs that they are allowed to listen to some day. Put Your Funny Where Your Mouth Is is Elaine's first venture out of the piano bar since her children usurped her life. Through musical comedy, she reflects upon motherhood, divorce, returning to college after 25 years, religion, and shamelessly lowering her standards. This show contains all new material and she is very excited to inflict it upon the masses. There is a $25 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.
