Memphis: The city is like a place of pilgrimage for any soul, blues, or rhythm and blues fan. Just a few minutes of listening to Heart Of Memphis is enough to understand that choice. Despite the time that has gone by and the museums being built in place of the legendary recording studios, the spirit of the city that, in its heyday, represented one of the best eras of American popular music has not disappeared. With her deep voice and her earthy, frank, direct, and gut-wrenching singing, McKelle embraces the legacy of those great artists from a city well-known for its tendency towards raw expression. Why we do this: Research shows that time spent in nature makes people healthier, happier and more creative, and that communities flourish where green spaces thrive. But staying green requires green! City greens need constant attention, repair and upkeep. Music and Art for City Greens helps by producing free professional music and art events to build community awareness and increase donations to spaces which otherwise might go wanting.

Since 2008, when Broadway actress and award winning cabaret veteran Raissa Katona Bennett first brought the joy of live music to Tudor City, thousands of people have enjoyed these concerts under the trees and have come away with new appreciation for and dedication to the green spaces in their midst.

Music and Art for City Greens is a 501c3 non-profit, and all performers and support people generously donate their time and talent for these events. 100% of all donations given by attendees at this summer concert series are collected directly by the Tudor City Greens organization for the upkeep of these spaces.

The organization will continue to produce at Tudor City Greens, while actively promoting creative and inclusive uses of other public green spaces.

NYC: DIANE BIRCH - 'SPEAK A LITTLE LOUDER'

Diane Birch brings her show 'Speak A Little Louder', based on her CD of the same name, to JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Wednesday, September 2nd at 9:30 pm. A marriage of darkness and light, of pain and abandon lies at the core of 'Speak A Little Louder,' Diane Birch's first new album in four years. It's a captivating and deeply moving record; a window into her complex and challenging journey into womanhood documented with intense emotional honesty, indelible melodies, and rousing hooks. 'Speak A Little Louder' follows the pianist/ singer/ songwriter's extraordinary 2009 debut, 'Bible Belt,' which opened in the Billboard Top 100 and prompted comparisons to Laura Nyro and Karen Carpenter along with glowing reviews from The New York Times, NPR, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, and more. Birch, who had worked primarily as a songwriter prior to signing with S-Curve Records, honed her skills as a performer on the road supporting the album, sharing the stage with everyone from Stevie Wonder to Betty Wright and appearing on The Today Show, Letterman, Leno, Conan, Kimmel, and Ellen along the way. Amidst the success, though, was devastating loss. At the close of the 'Bible Belt' project, Birch faced the end of a long-term relationship, recovering from the pain of heartbreak only to lose her father to cancer a short time later. In the wake of it all, the prospect of completing a new record felt like an impossible feat and left Birch questioning her future, both personally and artistically. There is a $18 cover.

CABARET CD NOW ON SALE! : LYNN HENDERSON'S "IF WE ONLY HAVE LOVE" CD AVAILABLE - AS ADVERTISED IN CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE

Lynn Henderson's memories as a singer date back to grade school when she wore out a recording of "It's Magic" singing along with Doris Day. Throughout her life, singing has been her passion. From big band vocalist to saloon singer to Handel soloist to cabaret singer, it has all been a joy! The chapters of her life from single New Yorker to wife, mom, equestrienne, businesswoman, divorcee and world traveler all contribute to her selection of songs that speak to me. Life has given Lynn a finer appreciation of great songs and a deeper understanding of what the extraordinary musical poets are telling us. Welcome to Lynn's world!

Lynn's new CD, titled "If We Only Have Love", was released on September 15, 2014. Since enjoying these songs with her audiences and wonderful musicians over the last couple of years at the Metropolitan Room in New York City and all over CT., Lynn has been encouraged to share them with a larger audience.
