The Broadway at Birdland concert series presents singer Natalie Douglas, who will be celebrating and performing "The Birthday Show" atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Monday, January 20th at 7:00 pm. The critically acclaimed Nightlife, Bistro & seven-time MAC Award winner Natalie Douglas returns to her favorite perch at Birdland as part of the Broadway at Birdland series with an all new concert, "The Birthday Show," celebrating her birthday with longtime musical director, Mark Hartman (Sondheim on Sondheim, Avenue Q) andher band of Broadway All-Stars. After the success of her first Birthday Show last year, Natalie can't wait to bring a new version of the program to life. The Birthday Show springs from all of Natalie's influences; from the eclectic tastes of her late parents to the music of her native Southern California, her ancestral East Texas roots and her adulthood in New York City. Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. It's the ultimate spot to mix and mingle with talented show folk and their fans. There is a $20 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: BEN WILLIAMS & SOUND EFFECT

Ben Williams will perform at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Monday, January 20th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. Williams is one of the youngest and brightest musicians on the scene today who is helping to push the legacy of jazz forward and through the reflection of his own distinct sound and flavor in hip hop, gospel, and Rhythm & Blues. He is highly recognized as a national and international acclaimed bassist, bandleader, performer, music educator, and writer who has performed with the likes of Herbie Hancock, Wynton Marsalis, George Benson, Pat Metheny, Terrence Blanchard, Roy Hargrove, Benny Golson, Stefon Harris just to name a few; and has consistently toured the Continents of Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North & South Americas. There is a $10-$15 cover.

NYC: ALEXIS P. SUTER BAND AT THE IRIDIUM

The Alexis P. Suter Band performs at THE IRIDIUM JAZZ CLUB (1650 Broadway, NYC - 212-582-2121) on Monday, January 20th with shows at 8:30 & 10:30 pm. When the great Bluesman B.B. King first heard Alexis P. Suter sing a few years ago, he was visibly impressed - and said so after her opening set for him at BB Kings NYC. The Alexis P. Suter Band has earned similar accolades from other well-known musicians and performers, including Levon Helm of The Band. A true vocal phenomenon, bass/baritone powerhouse Suter and her band began wowing audiences in the northeast as regular performers at Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble Sessions in Woodstock, NY. Since then, they have been in constant demand at North American festivals including, The Toronto Waterfront Blues Festival, The Cincinnati Blues Festival, FloydFest in Floyd, VA, The Kitchener Blues Festival in Kitchener, Ontario, Briggs Farm Blues Festival, PA; The Pocono Blues Festival; The Vermont Blues Festival, The Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival in British Columbia and The Columbia Blues Festival in Columbia, SC. The Milton Suggs Philosophy with Marquis Hill, trumpet; Christopher McBride, alto saxophone; Willerm Delisfort, piano; Ameen Saleem, bass; and Jeremy "Bean" Clemons, drums, will perform atDIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Monday, January 20th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. After a triumphant debut at Dizzy's this past September, Milton Suggs returns to celebrate the late, great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Suggs is a gifted up-and-coming vocalist who was encouraged to pursue vocals professionally by Jazz at Lincoln Center Managing & Artistic Director, Wynton Marsalis. He draws influence from the past century and beyond of jazz, soul, and R&B, having studied artists from Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, and Jon Hendricks, to Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Gaye. The Milton Suggs Philosophy has recently been lighting up the New York club scene with unique and culturally savvy performances. NYC: JASON MORRIS, MUSICALLY YOGIC

Jason Morris brings his show 'Musically Yogic' to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Monday, January 20th at 7:00 pm. The show is an intimate affair of rare gems, darkly-textured melodies, surprise guests, and of course the signature humour and soaring silky voice that makes audiences adore him. Tracy Stark music directs. Born to a classical pianist mum, music was in his blood from the start. Now, a NY-based performer-producer and the creator and co-producer of the Musical Momentum Concert Series (which continues to raise money for teen suicide, sexual violence, and breast cancer) he continues to prove that music has not only the power to move us to feel, but more importantly, the power that propels us to act and heal. Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks are back - and now will play every Monday & Tuesday night from 8:00 to 11:00 pm at at IGUANA'S VIP LOUNGE (240 West 54th Street, NYC - 212-765-5454). Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks is an eleven-piece band playing music of the 1920s & 30s for your dining and dancing pleasure. In 1976 Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks (originally known as the New Orleans Nighthawks) was formed. A big-band historian and collector, Giordano has more than 60,000 scores in his collection. Shaina Taub will peresent 'The Songs of Shaina Taub' at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Monday January 20th at 7:00 pm. The concert will feature song selections from all of Taub's current projects including There's A House - a musical commissioned by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Robin - a musical commissioned by Ars Nova and her albums What Otters Do and Shaina Taub Trio, as well as brand new songs, all performed by Taub's dynamic full band, featuring several guest vocalists. The concert will feature members of her trio: bassist/singer Mike Brun (Mr. Burns), drummer/singer Jacob Colin Cohen (One Man, Two Guv'nors), as well as guitarist Armand Hirsch (Bobby McFerrin World Tour), pianist Dave Melton, and a horn trio comprised of Jas Walton, Andy Clausen and Garrett Schmidt. Taub will be joined by guest vocalists Duncan Sheik (Tony and Grammy winner), Grace McLean (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812), Starr Busby (Things to Ruin), Kate Ferber (The Ghost Brothers of Darkland County), and Molly Hager (Fat Camp). The SEVENTH ANNUAL MARCH IS CABARET MONTH GALA will be held on SUNDAY, MARCH 16th at 1:00 pm at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909 - http://www.westbankcafe.com/ ). Sue Matsuki, who his producing the event this year on behalf of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, announced that this year she has positioned the show about half-way between the BISTRO AWARD show on March 4th and the MAC AWARD SHOW on March 27th. More details to follow.

This is the first time we are presenting a "brunch show" - and in this way we hope to avoid the situation we faced last year when other organizations scheduled their gala events on the same date as ours. And now we can also know that we won't conflict with any of our members who might be planning a cabaret event in March.

Ticket prices have not been set yet, but please remember that all CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE 2013-14 MEMBERS will get a discount off the cost of their tickets (and one non-member ticket).

D.C.: THE KEVIN PETER JONES ALL STAR BAND

The Kevin Peter Jones All Star Band will perform at BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Thursday through Sunday, January 16th through 19th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. What do Grammy Award winners Russell Ferrante, Eric Marienthal, and Jimmy Haslip all have in common? The answer is Kevin Peter Jones. Currently residing in Washington DC, Kevin Peter Jones was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, started playing drums at the age of ten, and hasn't stopped since. Over the years, Kevin has played and produced with many world renown musicians including Bunky Green, Wayman Tisdale, Will Kennedy, and Dave Brubeck. Kevin has worked hard to hone his craft to become one of the premier drummers in the world. After completing his duty in the United State's Air Force, Kevin turned his musical experience towards teaching, all the while continuing his personal musical pursuits. Kevin is now focused on his current audio project entitled Magnetic Journey. Call for cover/minimum information.

D.C.: TODD MARCUS JAZZ ORCHESTRA AT BOHEMIAN CAVERNS

Bass clarinetist, composer, and bandleader Todd Marcus and his orchestra will perform in a Special Sunday Show atBOHEMIAN CAVERNS(2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800) on January 19th at 7:00 & 8:30 pm. Marcus is one of the few jazz artists worldwide to focus exclusively on the bass clarinet as a main instrument. Marcus' playing presents the instrument with a modern straight-ahead jazz approach. His music swings hard with both fiery and introspective intensity but also maintains a strong lyrical sensibility. The group's show at Bohemian Caverns celebrates the end of the ensemble's 10-year anniversary as it prepares to record its new album the next day. The band of six horns, piano, bass, and drums plays both jazz standards and originals that showcase Marcus' Egyptian heritage by incorporating Middle Eastern music. Self taught in jazz theory and composition, Marcus' compositions draw largely on straight - ahead jazz and classical influences but over recent years have also increasingly explored the Middle-Eastern sounds from his Egyptian-American heritage. His work includes international performances, clinics, and radio play and he has worked with other jazz artists such as Bennie Maupin, Don Byron, Larry Willis, Ralph Peterson, Odean Pope, Tim Warfield, Sean Jones, George Colligan, Orrin Evans, Joel Frahm, Xavier Davis, Mike Formanek, and Gary Thomas. Marcus was also a featured guest at the 1st World Bass Clarinet Convention in Rotterdam, Holland where his work was recognized for both his compositions and unique solo voice. There is a $20 cover.

MARYLAND: THE SOUL SERENADERS FEATURING TOMMY LEPSON & BILLY PRICE

The Soul Serenaders featuring Tommy Lepson & Billy Price will perform at BETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) on Sunday, January 19th at 8:00 pm. Imagine two world class Soul singers whose careers have spanned 40 years, who have traveled worldwide singing to thousands and garnered praise from both critics and fans alike, and have never sung together. Now imagine these two singers coming together to create a vocal force of their combined talent. Put all that together and you have The Soul Serenaders. Presenting for the first time singing together, Billy Price and Tommy Lepson. NYC: CYRILLE AIMEE AT BIRDLAND

Jazz vocalist Cyrille Aimee will perform at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on SundY, January 19th at 6:30 pm. Aimee has a culturally rich background - Dominican and French Gypsy - and conservatory training (SUNY Purchase) that help to form the rhythmic and expressive foundation by which a jury of legendary vocalists including Al Jarreau, Kurt Elling, Dianne Reeves and Dee Dee Bridgewater judged her to be a finalist in the prestigious Thelonious Monk Vocal Competition in 2010. At the young age of twenty-six, Cyrille has since become one of the hottest young artists on the New York scene. She has already released four CDs with a variety of ensembles and performed at the top venues around the world. There is a $30 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: ARTURO O'FARRILL AFRO LATIN JAZZ ORCHESTRA SUNDAYS

Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill brings his Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra to BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Sundays at 9:00 & 11:00pm. Called the leader of the "first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz", O'Farrill was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte. The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra is the resident large format ensemble of the nonprofit Afro Latin Jazz Alliance (ALJA) founded by Arturo O'Farrill in 2007 and dedicated to preserving the music and heritage of big band Latin jazz, supporting its performance for new audiences, and educating young people in the understanding and performance of this important cultural treasure. NYC: CHRISTIAN SCOTT AT THE BLUE NOTE

Edison Award winning trumpeter-composer-producer-bandleader Christian Scott performs at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Thursday through Sunday, January 16th through 19th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. Christian stands tall among a handful of talented young jazz artists who are expanding their artistic vision beyond the strict confines of the genre's tradition. Throughout his career, Scott has been an intrepid explorer, from his Grammy nominated debut Rewind That to his genre stretching last album Yesterday You Said Tomorrow. Scott ups the ante on his compelling new double album, Christian aTunde Adjuah, an inspired and provocative two-CD, 23-track collection that spans a range of beyond-jazz influences as he continues to make strides into uncharted jazz territory. With Scott's trumpet at the heart of most of the tunes, the album features reflective ballads, light and dreamy soundscapes, guitar-edged and rock-inflected cookers, trumpet ecstasies as well as clarion calls and anguished wails. Scott's band consists of guitarist Matthew Stevens, drummer Jamire Williams, bassist Kristopher Keith Funn and pianist Lawrence Fields (Fields' piano sound is often spiced for effect by using paper on the instrument's strings), with guests including tenor saxophonist Kenneth Whalum III, alto saxophonist Louis Fouche IIII and trombonist Corey King. DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) is proud to present a salute to the late, great NEA Jazz Master Cedar Walton (1934-2013), a gifted pianist, arranger, and composer with a lasting impact. Performances are Friday, Saturday & Sunday, January 17th, 18th & 19th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Before joining and arranging for Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in 1961, Walton performed with greats like Kenny Dorham, J. J. Johnson, Art Farmer, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, and more. He continued to work with some of the best musicians and groups of every subsequent decade, and even went on to experiment with various keyboards as leader of the funk band Mobius. These performances will feature Dizzy's Late Night Session host Michael Mwenso and rising star drummer Evan Sherman as co-music directors. The rest of the band includes some of New York's finest young legends in the making, including Dizzy's regulars Russell Hall and Emmet Cohen, with Gerald Clayton joining on piano for Saturday's sets.
