Award-winning Australian performer Kim Smith will perform for 3 Wednesdays in March at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909), March 2nd, 9th & 16th. The show is directed by Christian Coulson, with piano accompaniment by Jerry Steichen. Fitting in isn't easy in this saccharine world of unwavering morals and processed celebrity -- but why try? Kim will take you by the hand and lead you through ruins of disfigured pop and glimmering period treasures, as he mischievously proves that misfits have more fun. Singing in German, French and English, Mr. Smith reinterprets works by Weimar-era composers, and modern-day artists alike, including: Friedrich Hollaender, Bjork, the Supremes, Kylie Minogue, Hanns Eisler, and myriad glittering others in conjuring the decadence and decay of 1920's Berlin. There is a $15 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.

Vocalist Maude Maggart, who first captivated Oak Room audiences six years ago with her "transformative interpretations" of the Great American Songbook, returns to the THE ALGONQUIN OAK ROOM (59 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-419-9331) on Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8:30 pm (with late shows on Friday & Saturday at 11:00 pm) through March 12th with a new show exploring varieties of romantic experience, performing such Sinatra classics as "The Lady Is A Tramp," "The Best is Yet To Come" and "I Wished On The Moon"; two by Stephen Sondheim, "More" and "Everybody Says Don't," and from the 20s, an iconic era for Maude, "A New Kind of Man with a New Kind of Love for Me," among others. Celebrating his most recent release, "The Gate" (Concord - 2/8/11), Kurt Elling returns to BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) with his quartet and special guest John McLean Tuesday through Saturday, March 1st through 5th with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. A rarity among jazz vocalists, the Grammy winner Mr. Elling was planning an academic career, but discovered jazz and took to it naturally. Deeply influenced by singer and poet, Mark Murphy, Elling began to develop his idiosyncratic scat style in the smaller clubs of Chicago. As the natural heir to jazz pioneers Eddie Jefferson, King Pleasure, and Jon Hendricks, Elling is the contemporary voice in vocalese. Whether it be Wayne Shorter, Keith Jarrett, or Dexter Gordon, Elling's vocalized interpretation is flawless, and upon Blue Note's reception of Elling's demo, "Close Your Eyes" was released in 1995. He began to get attention from jazz press, not only for his talent and original style, but also his choice in sidemen, which include Laurence Hobgood and Paul Wertico for a time. Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM(34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night in March at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

The All-Star band will be comprised of eight Canadian jazz icons who, throughout their prestigious international careers, are also multiple JUNO Winners - Guido Basso, Jane Bunnett, Terry Clarke, Hilario Duran, Pat LaBarbera, Don Thompson, Richard Underhill and Dave Young. The evening will be hosted by noted award-winning producer, arranger, Artistic Director, broadcaster and pianist, Bill King. Mark Janas' Salon is held at ETCETERA ETCETERA (352 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-399-4141) every Sunday evening from 7:00 to 10:30 pm with one intermission. There will be no Salon Event this week, February 27th. The Salon returns on Sunday, March 6th. The Salon is where singers, writers and musicians share their talent with each other and audience members around a chosen theme. As always, the theme is only a suggestion; you may perform anything you like in any musical genre: Broadway, pop, rock, country, jazz, classical, etc. There are no reservations; seating is on a first come/ first served basis, with one intermission. Doors open and sign up begins at 6:15 pm. There is a $10 cash cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.
