Heartbeats of the World, Inc. presents An Evening with Steve Ross at the KAUFMAN CENTER at the MERKIN CONCERT HALL(129 West 67th Street, NYC - 212-501-3330 - ) on Wednesday, October 27th at 8:00 pm. Steve Ross is acclaimed the foremost interpreter of the music of Cole Porter, Noel Coward and Stephen Sondheim, and has performed at leading cabaret and concert venues throughout the world, including the Oak Room at the Hotel Algonquin, Cafe Carlyle, the Stanhope, Lincoln Center and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Last year, Steve gave a highly acclaimed performance at Merkin Concert Hall benefitting the not-for-profit charity Heartbeats of the World. This year he has graciously volunteered to perform the songs of Porter, Coward, Sondheim and other great composers. Heartbeats of the World (HOW) is a 501 (c)(3) Not-for-profit charitable organization who's mission is to enrich the lives of women, adolescents, and children in underserved areas of the world by providing medical resources and educational opportunities to address poverty, unemployment and the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, and teenage pregnancy. Through prevention and training, we will diminish the impact of these conditions and improve lives.. Contributions are deductible for federal income tax purposes to the extent permitted by law. The Pat Martino Organ Quartet will perform at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080 - ) Tuesday through Saturday, October 26th through 30th with sets at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. Virtuoso guitarist Martino got his start on the "chitlin' circuit" with organ groups led by "Groove" Holmes, Jack McDuff, Don Patterson, Trudy Pitts, Charles Earland and others in the 1960s. Having fully recovered from a life-threatening illness in the 1980s that caused him to forget how to play the guitar and relearn by listening to his own 1960s recordings, Martino has re-emerged as a veteran presence on the jazz scene due in part to a successful association with Blue Note Records. Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night in October at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. Joining Gretchen will be Musical Director Tracy Stark at the piano, Lisa Brigantino on bass and guitar, and drummer Donna Kelly. "Gretchen Sings Janis Joplin's Pearl" was originally created as part of the award winning "Under the Covers" series this past March, produced by Lennie Watts. Artists in the series were asked to choose their favorite album and cover it, start to finish. In choosing Pearl, Gretchen recreates the iconic final album of legendary blues rocker Janis Joplin, exploring not only the rock side of the album with songs like "Move Over" and "Half Moon," but also the quieter moments with songs like "A Woman Left Lonely" and "Trust Me." In addition, she explores moments from Janis Joplin's life; the last of which were spent recording this album. Joplin did not live to see Pearl released in early 1971, which became the biggest selling album of her career, and produced her only #1 hit, "Me and Bobby McGee." NATICK, MA: "SIMPLY THE BEST": STEVEN SANSOUCIE'S NEWEST CONCERT TONIGHT

N.E.: "SIMPLY THE BEST": STEVEN SANSOUCIE'S NEWEST CONCERT

For "Simply the Best," his third show at TCAN: The Center for Arts in Natick (14 Summer Street, Natick, MA - 508-904-7171), Boston-area singer Steven SanSoucie will change from is usual song list of tunes from the 60s & 70s to take on the hits of the 80s. This new show, which takes place on Sunday, October 24th at 7:30 pm, is simply what SanSoucie does best: he will entertain the audience with a playlist that was chosen with his head and will be sung with his heart. The name "Simply the Best" was chosen for two reasons, according to SanSoucie. First, it is the title of one of Tina Turner's hits, but secondly, and even more importantly, it is a version of his own greatest hits album, as he will be singing some of the best musical numbers from his past shows. Joining him on the TCAN stage is his husband and musical soul mate, Rob Wendel, who serves as musical director and will perform on keyboards. The backup band is comprised of Randy Cloutier on percussion, Kevin Coyne on guitar, and Lee Whalen on bass. Also, on various numbers, SanSoucie will be joined by guest vocalists Keri Boisclair, Robin Burrage, Elana Marsh, and Jill Stewart. Tickets are $20.

Rhode Island singer/pianist John Abernathy teams up with the fabulous Savannah Devereaux in their new cabaret show "Love and Marriage" ay THE HI-HAT AT DAVOL SQUARE (3 Davol Square, Providence, RI - 401-453-6500) on Sunday, October 24th at 8:00 pm. The show features mostly Broadway music by Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Kander and Ebb, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Frank Loesser, and many more. John Abernathy was featured in the 16th Annual New York Cabaret Convention at Lincoln Center in a tribute to Broadway composer Jerry Herman sharing the stage with legendary performers Lee Roy Reams, Michael Feinstein, Marilyn Maye, and Mr. Herman himself. He also received a nomination for Best Male Cabaret Performer from the Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) for his show A Cock-Eyed Optimist in Boston. Shepley Metcalf premieres "Something Irresistible: Shepley Metcalf Sings Fran Landesman" on Sunday October 24th at 7:00 pm at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440).Backed by her music director Ron Roy on piano, Chris Rathbun on bass and Bart Weisman on drums, the Boston-based Metcalf recently introduced these songs in performances at Scullers Jazz Club in Boston and Davenport's in Chicago. The New York premiere of "Something Irresistible" celebrates the U.S. release in March of "Something Irresistible: Songs of Fran Landesman + Simon Wallace". Written with the jazz composer Simon Wallace, Landesman's songwriting collaborator in London since 1994, the new collection includes standouts like "In a New York Minute," "It's Cool to be Cool," "When Your Computer Crashes," and the monumentally poignant "Save the Photographs." A Greenwich Village fixture in her early career, Landesman is best known for her widely admired standards "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most," and "The Ballad of the Sad Young Men." Her songs have been covered in classic recordings by Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Ricki Lee Jones, Gil Evans and Bette Midler. Wallace is well known in Great Britain for his extensive work as a jazz pianist, arranger and composer in nightclubs, for the theatre and television. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

Valerie now takes on the multifaceted career of Academy Award winning Marvin Hamlisch in an evening dedicated to his past and present triumphs. From the early pop songs through his amazing successes on stage and screen, Valerie brings all of her formidable talents to bear in this evening dedicated to the man who gave her one of her earliest breaks in show business. Filled with stories of her travels with him on the road as a symphony vocalist, as well as tales of the huge influence he has had on her singing career, Valerie Lemon shines the spotlight on the man responsible for some of the best-loved songs of his generation. From "The Way We Were" to the Pulitzer Prize winning score for A CHORUS LINE, the evening is filled with memorable music. Nightlife, Bistro and MAC Award winning artist Gretchen Reinhagen and her all-girl band return to DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) in October with her acclaimed show "Gretchen Sings Janis Joplin's Pearl." Joining Gretchen will be Musical Director Tracy Stark at the piano, Lisa Brigantino on bass and guitar, and drummer Donna Kelly. Performances are scheduled for Sunday, October 24th at 6:00 pm; Tuesday, October 26th at 7:00 pm; and Thursday, November 4th at 7:00 pm. Barry Kleinbort directs. "Gretchen Sings Janis Joplin's Pearl" was originally created as part of the award winning "Under the Covers" series this past March, produced by Lennie Watts. Artists in the series were asked to choose their favorite album and cover it, start to finish. In choosing Pearl, Gretchen recreates the iconic final album of legendary blues rocker Janis Joplin, exploring not only the rock side of the album with songs like "Move Over" and "Half Moon," but also the quieter moments with songs like "A Woman Left Lonely" and "Trust Me." In addition, she explores moments from Janis Joplin's life; the last of which were spent recording this album. Joplin did not live to see Pearl released in early 1971, which became the biggest selling album of her career, and produced her only #1 hit, "Me and Bobby McGee." There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum. $15 cover for members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE.
