TODAY IN NYC: JC HOPKINS BIG BAND AT THE IRIDIUM • MEMBER DISCOUNT: $10 OFF THE COVER
Scobar Entertainment presents JC Hopkins Big Band with vocalists Champian Fulton and DeWitt Fleming Jr. at IRIDIUM JAZZ CLUB (1650 Broadway, NYC - 212-582-2121 - ) on Tuesday, August 24th, with performances at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. The JC Hopkins Biggish Band began its life in 2000 with a residency at the famed burlesque club, The Slipper Room, with a core group of players that included Norah Jones on vocals. Since then the band drawn sell-out crowds on both coasts, playing its original brand of swing, jazz and bop. Following in the footsteps of Hoagy Carmichael and Duke Ellington, Hopkins writes deceptively simple words and melodies that speak to something deeper, and more emotionally complex, with the potential to add a page to the great American Songbook. Singers as diverse as Norah Jones, Victoria Williams, Martha Wainwright, Jolie Holland, Madeleine Peyroux and now Queen Esther have fronted the band. The band's live sound is a rollicking, swinging free for all, an inheritance of Mingus and Basie. There is a $25 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum. $15 cover for members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE.
